The Wooden Bat Baseball Club
Hello, my name is Scott and I am organizing this men's baseball club for the summer of 2000.
General Information
The purpose of this club is to provide a recreational baseball setting for men from 20 years old on up. The club will be utilizing the Lake Zurich High School varsity field on Sunday mornings from 7am to 11am. Wrigley Field and Yankee Stadium were unavailable this summer due to the current tenants. The games will be played from June through August. Approximately 11 to 16 (9) inning games will be played. There may even be a double header (7 inning format) scheduled. Furthermore, this is an independent club so don't contact the school because they will not have details. I would like to start practicing in May. The practice location has yet to be determined.
This is the inaugural season for this club and we are seeking 25-30 baseball players that are willing to have fun and show a competitive spirit at the same time.
Rules
The club will utilize Major League Baseball guidelines with a few notable exceptions as follows:
1. Every player shall play in a minimum of 3 innings on the field per game.
2. A lineup may consist of as many as 11 batters or as little as 9.
3. A designated hitter may be used in place of a pitcher (spot in the lineup) and is left to the manager's discretion.
4. Unlimited substitutions allowed and each team is allowed 2 substitute runners per game.
5. All wooden bats! No aluminum or wood simulated composite bats allowed.
Larry Walker of the Colorado Rockies hit .379 with 37 homers last season using a wooden bat. Get the idea?
Field
The field is located at the Lake Zurich High School (300 Church St. Lake Zurich, IL)
Church Street is also known as Midlothian when coming from the north. The field dimensions are approximately 315' to left field line, 340' to center, 305' to right field line. The field is fenced in by a an 8' fence with a warning track.
Fees
There will be minimal fees due to cover the following items:
1. insurance as required by the school district
2. Tools of the trade (baseballs, umpires, helmets, other misc.)
3. uniforms (optional and will be discussed later)
