Our mission at Taste Great is to educate the consumer concerning one of the most important keys to great tasting water. The most important key to great tasting water is the use of "active carbon". The Taste Great goal is to provide a price/quality replacement filter. We feel that Marathon Ceramics fills the part of "Quality". Gravity type Replacement Fliters Based on Taste Great filter size it has about 50% of the ceramic surface area of a 7 in. standard gravity size element. Taste Great ceramic 3.5 in. element will produce 0.25 to 0.5 liters/hour ( approx. 3 gals a day) with clear surface water. Using it with unknown quality (muddy cloudy) water expect output to be reduced by 50% or greater. Taste Great specification will reduce bacteria by >6 log and cysts by >3 log. Filter efficiency is 0.3 microns. The silver impregnated carbon (GAC silver) has moderate capacity for removing the chlorine related compounds. Taste Great suggest replacement of ceramic/carbon filters every 3 months, 3000 gals or earlier depending on water quality and taste. CleaningThe ceramic element can be cleaned with an abrasive cloth 30-50 times before end-of-life. Dry element before abrasive cleaning. Also available are element cartridges without carbon. These should be used only as a post or prefilter. Carbon is an important part of a filter process-it reduces chemicals such as chlorine. A carbon filter should be implemented with this filter.
