One of my favorite quotes is "Advice is what you ask for when you already know the answer but with you didn't" by Erica Jong. You might be thinking to yourself "than what the hell do I need you for?" You need me to point out the truth you are ignoring. Sometimes we confuse what we want to believe with reality. Some people ask 15 different folks for advice when they are just waiting for someone to repeat what they want to say. Most of the time our friends have our best interest at hand (hopefully). Since they like you and don't want to hurt your feelings they might say what you want to hear or put things too gently. In most situations this will do just fine. e.g. no those stretch capris don't make your ass look fat. Unfortunately, there are other situations where you need to hear the truth to get on with your life. Who am I? I am not a licensed psychologist, counselar, or "life coach". I do have a degree is psychology, but I don't think it makes a bit of difference. What I am is an objective third party with an uncanny ability to accurately size up a situation. Sometimes you know the truth but you just need to hear it from someone else. You will know it when you hear it. |
