Prepps dress up like it's Sunday morning everyday because they suffer from IS, Intrigue Syndrome, a disease that attracts them to things that confuse them. They find pleasure in mindlessly pondering things that they cannot understand, things that do not require answers, and things that should not normally bring pleasure, but in some mindless way, they do. This is very much related to a dog chasing a spotlight across a wall, he will never catch anything, but he goes back to the light again and again, revelling in the chase.
Their simple choice of stores is easily explained. Let me show you some examples of what a prepp thinks about their stores when they see the signs
When a prepp sees this title:

He or she thinks:
1."What is an 'Abercrombie'?"
2."What is an 'and'?"
3."What is a 'Fitch'?"
When he or she sees this title:

He or she thinks:
1."Who is 'old'?I'm not old! Do i have a wrinkle! I think I can feel it!
2.He or she does not even notice the 'Navy', they proceed to iron their face with a normal household iron.
Their actual choice in clothing can be explained by this theory also, the logos are always on the clothing, and the plaide shirts , well, just look at this plaide swatch, is it not mind boggling?
