Large mouth bass-( micropterus salmoides )
The large mouth bass is perhaps the worlds favorite game fish. It strikes hard, and is fairly abundent. it can be found in all states in the U.S. except for Alaska. The world record fish was a 22lb 4oz lunker. It was caught in 1932 in montgomery lake in Georgia.
bass can be taken on many typs of artificial, and natural bait. Some of the artificals include plastic worms, spinnerbaits, subsurface plugs, crank baits,popers, jerk baits, prop lurs, buz baits, grass frogs,gigs, tailspins, vibrating blades, spoons, pork rinds, spoon plugs, spinners, flys, and tube baits.
Live bait can in clude worms, waxworms, leeches, minnows, chubs, shiners, frogs, tadpoles, crawfish, bluegill, sunfish, and salamonders, but perhaps their favorit food is baby shad.
Look for bass along points, droop offs, weed beds, cove, rip rap banks, large rocks, brush piles, fallen timber, stumps, docks, bridges, sunkin roads, flooded fences, and old junk cars.
Bass prever certin vegitation including, Hydrilla, milfoil, cattails, bulrushes, water hyacinth, coontail, ponweeds, andwater lilies.
bass don't hang out at one type of weed, but were two species converge, and that will give them a wider range of feeding opertunities.
Some of the biggest bass come from farm ponds. In ponds their is no curent, or large marine preditors to limit the life expectancy. they lay around and get fat on bluegill. Not a hard life if you ask me.
