"Building New Bridges to Global Understanding, Friendship and Peace,"
There are good reasons for suggesting that the modern age has ended. Many things indicate that we are going through a transitional period when it seems that something is on the way out and something else is painfully being born. It is as if something were crumbling, decaying and exhausting itself, while something else, still indistinct, were arising from the rubble.
Terrorism casts it lethal shadow across the globe... yet the world's resolve to defeat it has never been greater. Is a revolution that will end or some thing that has come to stay? This topic will be largely debated and exposed by numerous experts in the field of Terrorism and Conflict study Organizations.
Violence and Terrorism are global menace and they illustrate the scope and magnitude of our common vulnerability; the vulnerability of each and every one of us to the barbarism and inhumanity of a perverted response to injustice and exclusion. We condemn the hijacking and terrorist attacks on public centers in American cities, Bangladesh, Middle East, Israel, Philippines, Kenya, Tanzania, Spain and anywhere that have killed a large number of innocent human beings. Our deep sympathy goes out to the every nation, particularly those who have suffered from violent attacks and also to the families of the victims. Terrorism is doomed and the international community should take effective measures in a bid to eradicate it. The Convention of the Organisation of the Islamic Conference on Combating International violence and Terrorism adopted on 1 July 1999 is one of the rare documents in which a definition of terrorism has been appeared. Article 1, Paragraph 2 of the Convention reads as follows:
"Terrorism means any act of violence or threat thereof notwithstanding its motives or intentions perpetrated to carry out by individuals or collective criminal plan with the aim of terrorising people or threatening to harm them or imperiling their lives, honor, freedoms, security or rights or exposing the environment or any facility or public or private property to hazards or occupying or seizing them, or endangering a national resource, or international facilities, or threatening the stability, territorial integrity, political unity or sovereignty of independent states."
In addition to the above definition, the Convention in Paragraph 4 of the same article provides that crimes stipulated in the 12 United Nations anti-terrorism specialized conventions are also considered terrorist crimes with the exception of those excluded by the legislation of Contracting States or those who have not ratified them. It is worth-mentioning that in spite of inclusion of the definition of terrorism, limited number of State-Parties and lack of an action-oriented mechanism have served as negative factors in implementation of the convention.
Considering the fact that the ambiguity of the word terrorism is one of the main obstacles in the way of any concerted international effort aimed at eradicating terrorism, it is indispensable to make every effort, at this juncture, to arrive at a generally agreed definition of international terrorism. Failure to address this point will question the necessity and utility of this exercise
Researches have recognized that children are not the only victims of violence, but often become perpetrators themselves. Our communities need resources to educate the youths in order to prevent incidents of violence. By developing, designing and implementing materials and programs relevant to and familiar with First Nations youth in our communities, we will also be working towards creating a positive vision for our young people. Active participation will benefit youths in the acquisition and maintenance of life skills, thus improving their physical, emotional, mental and spiritual well being.
The American International Refugee Service Agency Prevention Program is a holistic curriculum that empowers youth to not become victims, and to avoid becoming victimizers. The program also helps youths improve their physical, mental and social well-being. Thus, this program strengthens and supports the child, the family and the community through a holistic approach.
The AIRSA/AYRO36 program is designed to be community based so there is consistent consultation with the community. Schools, youth groups, counselors, teachers, parents and social workers can implement this program as part of their ongoing programs. This curriculum project will also list resource people that teachers or other facilitators may need to assist them in implementation of this program.
Empathy, impulse control, problem solving, self-esteem and other pro-social skills will be taught to the youths in order to reduce the possibility of aggressive behavior.
In the Empathy Unit, Participants will learn how to identify and understand the feelings of others and provide an appropriate response. In the Impulse Control Unit, students will learn skills in problem solving, effective communication and specific social behavior.
The American Youth Rights Organization is the first to set up a toll free, province-wide youth violence prevention line providing youth with a safe and confidential way to get information and help, and to prevent potential crimes. Callers receive direct assistance from school liaison or youth police officers in their communities. Wallet cards, posters and brochures promoting awareness, encouraging youth to use the line and take a stand against youth violence are distributed to schools, community centers, youth agencies, libraries and other community locations across the province.
The AYRO is a group of youths dedicated to promoting ways for other youth to take positive action against crime and violence. The AYRO also helps other youths develop activities for schools and youths in their own communities. AYRO has worked with more than 500,000 youth in schools, youth custody centers and youth agencies in communities throughout the province. AYRO along with members of Knowledge Network's Kid Zone series, are now featured in Take a Stand, a 17-minute video with a facilitator's guide to help teachers, youth, police and parents discuss youth crime and violence issues and work together to find solutions
The AYRO Network links more than 140 officers working with youth, school, liaison officers and police in 1,134 urban and rural communities throughout American provinces. These officers have been trained to respond to calls on the Youth Against Violence Line to assist with community crime prevention and youths safety projects, and to provide information to help teachers, youth, police and parents and work together to address schools and community safety.
This program, developed for youths by youths, is packed with information, ideas and tools to help youths develop and put in place violence prevention and community safety projects. Designed in an easily accessible format, the kit covers how to set up a project team, identify issues, develop projects, plan successful events, work with community partners, including the media, and evaluate results. The kit also contains practical information on issues affecting youth, including bullying and intimidation, vandalism, theft and graffiti, personal safety, substance abuse and TERRORISM.
Why the concern about children and youths? Simply put, twenty percent of our population is made up of children, yet children are 100 percent of our future. Also, they are the most vulnerable. For when acts of terror shake us to the core, we fear our children will suffer even more. Helping children mobilize their own potential strength and resources can, essentially, serve prophylactic ends. This infusing of the younger person with transmitted strength and insights from the previous generation require a particular kind of attitude I call fortifying generativity. By this I mean the approach to children and youths in which mature individuals use their capacity to put other welfare unselfishly ahead of their own and care deeply about what happens to others, and does all to ensure the other success in mastery of current and future stress-based fears.
Aims and Objectives
The primary objective of these conferences aimed at making the world a global village through travel and tours and bridging the gap between races and status and providing a framework for reintegration of various cultures
Sponsors
This forth coming conference are jointly sponsored by 36 American States; Charitable Trusts and Friends Without Boarders of the USA. The Pepsi Int'l, Hearts Organization Coca Cola Int'l and numerous other silver sponsors.
We congratulate all of them for making the Conference a success.
Target Audience
One of the principle objectives of these conference is to highlight the roles women and youths could play in the resolution and prevention of conflict before it is ignited and the mediation of it at standoffs (b) Participations will also be taught the mechanisms for dictating conflict situations and the ways for arresting them. What of the age long discriminations one may asked, in Nigeria, the tribal origin of people often determines their eligibility into offices. In Ethiopia, the Amharas 7 million tribesmen of the emperor monopolized all the important posts in the country, Liberia, Uganda, and the Sudan situations are all apparent. The Europe is not free, Asia, America, the United Kingdom all have failed and it is the objective of these conferences to maintain that Africa and the Worlds survival will not be procured with blood and iron but with negotiations and diplomacy. The fund for dispute resolution was created in 2002 through a combined grant of $7,000,000 from the Attorney Generals Gild, Peace Donations of Private Individuals and the Donor Canadian Foundation. Its mandate was to support innovations in dispute resolution research, practice and service delivery aimed to Conflict Prevention and Resolution.
