There are three small islands in the Iles du Salut group which are located about ten miles east of the French Guiana mainland (map): Isle Royal is the largest and the one visited by tourists, St. Joseph Island which housed the convicts and the smallest of the islands, Devil's Island, which also housed some of the prisoners.
