Broken Wing

A bird sits alone as it cannot fly

With one wing broken, it breaks down to cry

It remembers the days when it soared so high

"Why did this happen to me, O why?"

It knew it made a wrong turn one day

Disregarding the warnings along the way

It flew thru the dark without any fear

Spiraling and gliding with grace as a deer

Then it suddenly happened & before it could know

It was too dark to see the branch hangin’ low

Falling from flight it went spiraling down

Aerial acrobats with the grace of a clown

Bumps and bruises along the way

As it hit every branch down on its way

Gasping for breaths with ground now in sight

Brave Birdie was now consumed with fright

It lost consciousness before hitting the ground

Every creature around heard the crashing sound

Tickertape feathers still flowed from above

Birdie just lay there, unable to budge

Stunned and amazed, Birdie arose

"I survived this fall ...at least I suppose"

Noticing one wing slumped to the ground

It made a sling with twigs it had found

It’s a long way back to friends who can fly

It looked all around and then to the sky

It prayed and said:

I know so much that I’ve done wrong

I’ve been Birdie imperfect, for way too long

I’m broken, the pain keeps stabbing my heart

My wing is broken, snapped all apart

Am I wounded forever? It takes so long to heal

I want no emotions, so there’s nothing to feel

I do say one thing, and now I can boast

That in my sufferings, I know we are close

You went thru much more than I realize

However, the pain is still in my eyes

Wipe my tears and don’t ever leave me

Thank You, Jesus.

Your shame, Your pain, is my gain.

All I’ll ever need is Your love, Your Son, Your name,
