A BRIEF HISTORY
The home of the Oilers is the Skyreach Centre formerly known as Northlands Coliseum, in chilly Northern Alberta. Edmonton eats and sleeps hockey, especially since the 80's when the Oilers won 4 cups, and again in 1990. Wayne Gretzky, Mark Messier, Jari Kurri, Kevin Lowe, Glenn Anderson and Grant Fuhr were just a few who made the Oilers the machine they were in the 80's.
THE FANS AT SKYREACH
How could the Oilers or any team win games without fans?
The difference in Edmonton is loud, hockey obsessed, screaming and cheering fans WHO KNOW THE GAME.
The Skyreach speakers pump out louder adrenaline pumping music than any other arena in Canada, and most likely the States. THE SPEAKERS ARE CRANKED TO 110dB!!!!
When attending a game at Skyreach, you may hear Twighlight Zone by 2Unlimited when the Oilers take the ice, or 'You gotta keep 'em separated' by Offspring, when a fight breaks out.
PLAYOFF PERFORMANCE
When describing the 'new' Oilers and their playoff experiences, the word UPSET may be used.
Here's a look:
1996/97-Round 1: #1Dallas vs #8Edmonton
-Edmonton destroys the Stars hopes with a 7th game victory in Dallas, Todd Marchant scores the famous OT winner on a break away.
(SEE THIS GOAL VIDEO BY CLICKING ON THE OFFICIAL SITE, IN OUR 'OILERS LINKS' PAGE.)
1997/98-Round 1: #2 Colorado vs #7 Edmonton
-The Oilers rip the Av's hearts out, with yet another 7th game vicory, in Colorado this time. What's more amazing is that they CAME BACK FROM A 3-1 SERIES DEFICIT.
Memories of an entertaining Game 6 in Edmonton are clear in my mind.
EX-OILERS
As much as it sucks to know that these guys aren't on the Oilers anymore, it's cool to think how it would be with them now.
Here are some out-standing Ex-Oilers(of recent years):
CURTIS J-erk-OSEPH- Toronto Maple Leafs
Ray Whitney-Florida Panthers
Vincent Damphousse- San Jose Sharks
Miroslav Satan-Buffalo Sabres
