The following
is a poem
my daughter wrote for
her grandmother "Grace" last spring. (1999)
It is a story
of her pain and that of our family
and
why we support the
"GRAYING WITH GRACE, A RIBBON RUNS THROUGH IT"
CAMPAIGN
Our organization, "Saving Grace"
was literally formed to 'Save Grace'
and others like her who have received,
in the family's opinion,
less than the care she and they deserve.

Saving Grace
Everyday
Finding Hope
And finding a Way.
We will fight
'til we can fight no more.
She deserves to be treated WELL!
She deserves
MORE!
We must all have courage
And NO DOUBT
We must stand up
And find the way out.
There is no competition or no race.
Because
One Day, for Sure
We will have Saved Grace
Dedicated
to my Grandma Grace

Favorite Grandma
By Amanda-"Granddaughter"
It's your Favorite Grandma,
Fore she was referred to in this way;
I think of those words,
with every passing day.
You endured so much, over the past years;
I watched you suffer, through the pain and the tears.
The best I could,
I helped with your care;
Watching you hurt,
Was more than I could bare.
In Heaven now, a special Angel I see,
Lord, this Angel is very important to me,
She sips a vanilla malt,
While rocking in a chair;
Please always tend to her,
With the upmost love and care.
You have your wings now Grandma, so pretty and white,
Oh behold what a beautiful, and joyous sight.
You're an Angel now Grandma,
Walking with pride;
Watching over us all,
Always being by our side.
I know you're in heaven now,
Although I cannot see;
I feel your presence,
Walking along with me.

Special Angel

I gave the Lord my Favorite Grandma today,
Rejoyce in his Kingdom,
For I know you are not far away.
You fought your battle,
With the upmost of pride;
We tried to help you,
By staying at your side.
This disease took a piece of you,
With every passing day;
We know that you meant not,
What you sometimes did or say.
We accompanied you to the Lord,
But at Heaven's Gate we had to leave;
We are now left alone,
To think of you and grieve.
I am sure that in Heaven,
You are rocking in a chair;
Watching over and guiding us,
With your ever loving care.
Here you are at peace now Grandma,
And your body is restored;
You are now an Angel,
In the presence of our Lord.

They called her Lucy, but we knew her as Grace.
Grace under pressure, grace under fire, grace under pain.
Amazing grace, enduring, fighting,
living, giving.
She fought to beat that which we have not cured
And left
a challenge for those who still fight to win the battle.
She is missed and beloved by friends, by family,
By sons, daughters,
grandchildren, husband, by their home.
She taught us beauty, faith,
dignity, honor, love, and respect.
She taught us grace, hope, joy and
patience.
Today we lay her body to rest, and call forth her spirit.
We call forth her spirit, the spirit of Grace to hear us.
Make us,
through your example, better people.
Make us strong in will, in deed, in word.
Make us whole, able to fight for that which you fought for,
Make us fighters for life.
How you loved life...
Help us to see the beauty in the midst of your tragedy,
That life continues in the life you brought forth into the world.
The life you birthed in body, and the life you birthed in love.
You were our
lighthouse in the storm,
our rock in slippery places,
Our love and grace
in harsh places of mind and body.
We remember you today, Lucy,
Grace, mother, friend, lover, woman.
By your life you gave us
the gift of your presence,
of your example.
May we
be better people, more loving, more giving,
for having known you.
We give thanks today for you.
We give thanks for Amazing Grace.
