To Do List
this time's To Do: get a sunless tan
No one wants to be pasty white all summer- but who wants premature wrinkles and skin cancer, which are caused by baking in the sun or a tanning booth? There is a solution! Sunless tanners (aka self tanners) are perfect. Here's your guide to getting a healthy golden, sable, or chocolate tan.
1. Pick the best tanner for you. With so many choices, it can be hard to choose the best formula. Take your time picking one out- reading all the labels can be very helpful. If you're afraid of streaking, try a foam formula or one especially made to prevent streaks. Some types are tinted to let you see which spots you've covered. Colors are important to consider when choosing, too. If the bottle doesn't say how dark the color is, it's usually a medium shade. Don't pick a color that's too dark- if the shade you end up with is too light, you can always put on a second layer.
2. Apply the tanner. Read all instructions very carefully before you start. You may want a friend to help you smear the cream on places you can't reach, like your back.
Be funky! Try a "tan tattoo" for a cool (temporary) look. Cut cute shapes (like flowers, stars, or butterflies) out of big stickers and stick them on your skin before you apply any tanner. Rub the stuff right over the sticker, and when it dries, peel it off.
3. Wear sunblock. Now that you have a great tan, hit the beach and show it off. Just remember to slather on 30+SPF sunblock anytime you'll be outside- self tanner doesn't give any protection against harsh UV rays. Even if it's a cloudy day, you can still absorb harmful rays. Reapply sunblock after you swim or sweat. You wouldn't want your cool tattoo to fade, would you?
