| Raleigh County Wrestling Hall of Fame In 1981, the Southern Coalfield Officials' Board created the Raleigh County Wrestling Hall of Fame. This was the first Wrestling Hall of Fame in West Virginia. Members were chosen as wrestlers, coaches, or promoters of the sport of wrestling. The first induction ceremony was held at the Ramada Inn on April 9th, 1981. Induction ceremonies were held for eight years in a row. After 1988, award banquets have been held when deemed necessary. Most of these tournament were held at Shady Spring High School. Two tournaments were held in the years 1985, 1986, and 1987. Wrestlers were allowed to participate in multiple weight classes and age groups. The tournament would usually draw between 200 and 300 wrestlers. The tournament was discontinued in 1988. In 1996, a Hall of Fame Classic was held at Park Junior High School. It was a dual format. The awards banquet has been financed by the Mountain State Wrestling Camp since 1999.
