You CAN Trim Down While Nursing

If you ask your healthcare provider about dieting while nursing your baby - they will tell you not to diet , and particularly not to take any drugs. And they are correct. You CAN NOT take any appetite supressants at all when nursing!!

You can take some herbs and minerals. One thing you can take is chromium piconolate. It is a natural mineral in your diet that helps your body use the insulin that is present. I checked with a Mr. Anderson with the FDA, and he said that it would be beneficial to a nursing mother. It is will help reverse gestational diabetes. I have included a page on chromium I recieved from a diet center.

However, you can trim down a bit while nursing, just do not expect any dramatic results. I dieted for 7 weeks, very strictly, yet only lost 7 pounds. I was very discouraged and quit. Big mistake! I then gained 30 pounds over the next 7 months!! So be patient, you can do it, it will just take a little time.

One thing I noticed, is that while carbohydrates are what give you energy, I was able to cut down on them with no adverse affects. On the old food pyramid, carbohydrates are the food group you should have the most servings of. However, when I cut out all bread and starchy foods, instead having grains, I was able to lose weight the easiest. I did increased my intake of protein and dairy when I cut down on the carbs and felt great.

You must pay attention to how your body feels. If you feel weak, you are missing something you need. NEVER go on a drastic diet, or cut out a food group without strictly monitoring your body! It will tell you when you need more. Pay attention to what your body tells you.

Also, the dreaded word - excercise. When you least feel like it is when you should excercise the most. Even though you have been up all night with the baby, and she is finally sleeping, resist the urge to lay down and sleep every time she does. At least one of those nap times you should excercise, and another do something else to pamper yourself. Like how about a bubble bath with a lovely scent? Or a cup of hot chocolate and a good book? Take care of yourself, you deserve alittle pampering, after all, you just brought a new life into this world. You are special.

Remember, everything you eat is passed on thru your breastmilk. So eat healthy, balanced meals. That will help you more than anything else will. Do it for your baby, if nothing else.
