Seward, located at the head of the fifteen-mile long Resurrection Bay which opens south to the Gulf of Alaska, is the outport for Anchorage which is situated some 130 miles to the north. The port is the terminus of the rail and road connections to the north and the junction with the Alaska state coastal ferry system. Cruise ships typically end their Alaskan itinerary here or at Whittier.
