Kauai, the oldest and most eroded major island in the Hawaiian Chain, has a most pleasant diversity of terrain with the so-called Grand Canyon of the Pacific plus the surrounding beaches, lush vegetation and less developed aspect of the island all contributing to a tropical playground. Port Allen is a commercial and recreational port but on occasion is utilized by cruise ships especially when Lihue is unavailable. It is situated on the south central shore of Kauai and is close to the Grand Canyon of the Pacific and the resort area of Poipu.
