Greenland, with only 55,000 inhabitants populating the world's greatest island of some 840,000 square miles, has 85% of its surface covered by an ice sheet. Narsarsuaq, essentially only an airport with a village of a few hundred people, is near the southernmost tip of Greenland at the head of a fiord and near the face of glacial ice.
