It's historical connections have been emphasized and it has become a visitor's favorite. Large cruise ships have to anchor offshore in the relatively quiet roadstead and tender passengers to the center of town. Lahaina is also served by cruise ships mooring at Kahului located some twenty-five miles to the northeast in the center of the island.
