Genealogy friends, family & cousins, I welcome you to my web page and am very glad you stopped by. I hope you find what you are looking for.
As most of you know, Genealogy is very addictive. I am very lucky that my father's first cousin did most of the research on our HOPKINS Family Tree. And then there is my mother's first cousin who has & still is researching our PHILLIPS line. I will have to carry on with getting the HOPKINS overseas from (we believe) Ireland. I will also have to research my mother's father, the CHATHAM Family Tree. But this search of mine will always be on-going and information, as I find it, will be added to these pages. There are no resources stated here, as of yet, so if you use or find any info, you may have to back it up with your own resources. If you find that we are cousins, and would like to use some of the information I have here, I would appreciate it very much if you would contact me first or at least put a link to my page on your web site. I would be happy to do the same.
HOPKINS Family Tree
There once was 3 boys who came to America with their father, ? HOPKINS, and their step-mother abt. 1740 from Ireland. The 3 boys names are: William, John and Archibald. Some documentation states they came to Albany, NY and then went to MD. From there, the 3 boys had a "spat" with their step-mother and left their father's home, to settle in Rockingham County, Virginia after first spending some time in Greenbriar County, West VA.
John married Jean GORDON and had lots of descendants and most settled in Ohio, but this is not my direct line. I also have tons of information on John's line, so if you need help, send me an email and I'll see what I can do.
William married Ann(e) LOVE, who had very little descendants and not my direct line, either.
Archibald married Ann(e)'s sister, Jenet LOVE who had a few descendants and this is my direct line.
So sit back and see if you can make a cousin connection. The surnames I am always searching for are as follows:
HOPKINS, RALSTON, LOVE, HENTON/HINTON, KAUFMAN/COFFMAN, LIONBERGER, KNEISLEY, COPELAND, GORE, BYRD, WARD, YORK, HOLLEY, HARKEY, MATHEWS, CHATHAM, WILSON, SAWYER, PARAMORE, THORNTON, MILLER, PHILLIPS, HENSON, HARRIS, ADKINS, JENNINGS, GOAD, CROSS, DOVER, WAGGONER, GARNER, SHEPPARD, CHILDERS, DEMOSS, MCGUIRE.
RALSTON, COFFMAN/KAUFMAN & GORE are from VA area, as are possibly COPELAND, BYRD, LIONBERGER, & HENTON/HINTON. The LOVE siblings are believed to be from Pennsylvania. KNEISLEY is very new and yet unproven by me, but looks like they came from perhaps Norway or Switzerland.
HOPKINS started in Ireland, to NY to MD, to VA, to OK, to ID. I have also met cousins online with this name, and it is wonderful to find relatives.
WARD is Choctaw Indian from Oklahoma area (my father's father's mother, Nova WARD). I have a copy of her death certificate and roll number for my source. But have not been successful in finding anything further on her father's parents. Her father was Edward WARD married to Missouri YORK. I recently found another cousin on line who believes Edward's father to be Samuel Bishop WARD and his father to be Abraham Parsons WARD.
YORK is still unknown to me, but Nova's mother, Missouri YORK. Recently, I received some info on her that says she was born in possibly Tennessee. Her father may be Alvin (or Aven) Henderson YORK, b. 8 Jan 1826 in TN. He married Mary Ann ?. Alvin's father may be John YORK who was born abt 1775 in South Carolina and died 1794. He married Mary ???? who was born in abt 1804/1805 in TN. The wonderful help I have received on this line comes from the generous people on the YORK mailing list.
HOLLEY, I don't have much info on yet (my father's mother). This is one of my major brick walls. I recently took over the HOLLEY-L mailing list hosted by rootsweb. If you would like to join, please send an email to: HOLLEY-L-request@rootsweb.com In the subject line and in the body of the message, put ONLY ONE WORD: Subscribe No not put anything else in with that one word, not even your name, signature line, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. Then you will receive messages, one at a time, from people who have joined the list, also looking for their ancestors. Sometimes the lists get quite busy and other days, they are slow. If you get to a point where you feel you are receiving too much email from the list, you can unsubscribe the same way you subscribed and then subscribe to the list in digest mode. This means you will receive only one message from the list about every 18 hours that contains several messages posted to the list. To subscribe to this list in digest mode, send an email to: HOLLEY-D-request@rootsweb.com To send a message for everyone on the list to read or respond to after you have subscribed, in either mode, send an email to: HOLLEY-L@rootsweb.com
MATHEWS, not anything to go on yet (my father's mother's mother).
HARKEY, is another person my father's mother's mother married. My father's uncle, Julius HARKEY, was married to Opal (FOWLER) HARKEY. She was the great-great-granddaughter of Choctaw Chief Thomas LeFLORE.
PHILLIPS started in Wales, England 1653 (my mother's mother's people). Some names from this line are ADKINS, JENNINGS, HENSON, GOAD, CROSS, MCGUIRE, DOVER, & WAGGONER.
CHATHAM started in 1750 Virginia and on into OK (my mother's father's people). Some of the names from this line are PARAMORE, SAWYER, WILSON, & HARRIS. I recently took over the CHATHAM-L mailing list hosted by rootsweb. If you would like to join, please send an email to: CHATHAM-L-request@rootsweb.com In the subject line and in the body of the message, put ONLY ONE WORD: Subscribe No not put anything else in with that one word, not even your name, signature line, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. SHEPPARD, is my mother's mother's mother. Some names from this line are GARNER, CHILDERS, & DEMOSS. I have recently taken over the DEMOSS-L mailing list hosted by rootsweb. If you are researching this surname & would like to join, please send an email to: DEMOSS-L-request@rootsweb.com In the subject line and in the body of the message, put ONLY ONE WORD: Subscribe No not put anything else in with that one word, not even your name, signature line, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. The rest of the names tie in somewhere along our trees, as you will see, I hope.
I imagine these pages will always be under construction, so please stop back by often for changes and new information.
The links to other pages on Oklahoma are full of information for you Oklahoma researchers. A wonderful friend, Nalora Burns, has done all the research on the information provided within these pages, and it is with her permission that I have posted it here. More and new information will be added all the time, so please stop back by. Also, if you need more information on other areas of research in Oklahoma, I host the Pushmataha County, Oklahoma web site. By clicking on the link provided, it will take you to that page. There are even county researchers who could possibly help you with your research. http://www.rootsweb.com/~okpushma/PushCo.html
I have also started the mailing list for the above web site. If you would like to join, please send an email to: OKPUSHMA-L-request@rootsweb.com In the subject line and in the body of the message, put ONLY ONE WORD: Subscribe No not put anything else in with that one word, not even your name, signature line, ABSOLUTELY NOTHING ELSE. Then you will receive messages, one at a time, from people who have joined the list, also looking for their ancestors. Sometimes the lists get quite busy and other days, they are slow. I have also started a mailing list for anyone researching their Native American roots, specifically, CHOCTAW Indian roots who settled in Oklahoma after the Indian removal from Mississippi. To subscribe to this list, send an email to: CHOCTAW-L-request@rootsweb.com with the one word: subscribe in the body of the message and subject line. As stated above, do not put anything else in the subject line or body of the message. If you want to subscribe in digest mode, send an email to: CHOCTAW-D-request@rootsweb.com
To send a message to the list, send an email message to: CHOCTAW-L@rootsweb.com
If you are researching for your Choctaw Indian ancestors who started in Mississippi before the removal, and who may have stayed there, there is another great mailing list hosted by Markie that you can subscribe to. Send an email message to:
CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-L-request@rootsweb.com with the one word: subscribe and absolutely nothing else. As stated above for the other two lists, if you do not wish to receive separate emails in your inbox because of heavy traffic flow, subscribe to the list in digest mode: CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-D-request@rootsweb.com And once subscribed, send your query message to: CHOCTAW-SOUTHEAST-L@rootsweb.com
Good luck to everyone in their quest to find their ancestors.

To Whom It May Concern! -
I went searching for an ancestor, I cannot find him still.
He moved around from place to place, and didn't leave a will.
He married where a courthouse burned, he mended all his fences.
He avoided any man who came to take the U. S. Census.
He always kept his luggage packed, this man who had no fame.
And every 20 years or so, this rascal changed his name.
His parents came from Europe, they should be on some list.
Of passengers to the USA, but somehow they got missed.
And no one else in this world is searching for this man.
So I'm playing "Gene-Solitaire," to find him if I can.
I'm told he's buried in a plot, with tombstone he was blessed.
But the weather took the engraving, and vandals took the rest.
He died before the county clerks, decided to keep records.
No Family Bible has emerged, in spite of all my efforts.
To top it off, this ancestor, who's caused me so many groans.
Just to give me one more pain, betrothed a girl named Jones.
