WALLACE AND GROMIT- Curse of the Were Rabbit
Every Christmas my father makes us all gather round the T.V. and we are made to suffer the ignomony of watching his complete video collection of Wallace and Grommit. 'The Wrong Trousers' the peak of their little plasticine power he tells us. Now don't get me wrong, i enjoy watching the misadventures of Nock Park's two clay creations, but its more for the Dad's of this world, not your party three times aweek till your so skint you can't afford the cinema student.

Well think again, the new and first Feature length movie of England's most famous cheese lover and his pet pooch is Oscar winner Park's real masterpiece. Forget the one with the funny penguin, or the one with all those silly sheep. This Movie is 84 minutes of absolute hilarious fun. The jokes are broader line risque, and the humour appeals to all ages, the policeman role, voiced by the excellent Peter Kay will have all you Phoenix Nights fans rolling in the aisle. Peter Sallis has his best performance yet as Wallace, aided by the best script that Aardman animations have produced to date. And we have a star turn from Helena Bonam Carter as Wallace's love interest.

Nick Park has not gone all hollywood with this film, which is set in a rural English village, based, accordinding to the creator, on a village near Wigan. The Character's are all charming, all delightfully hand made, and the animation is flawless. This may be Wallace on Grommit on a much larger scale, but it has lost none of its charm, or excentricities which make it so unique.

I would highly recommend a visit to the flicks for this one, it is easy to watch, and the quirky storyline (Giant Were Rabbit roams village by night, destroying the locals prized produce) is more than enough to keep all ages of viewer interested. I thought that i was in for an extra 84 minutes of christmas T.V hell this year when my father purchased the dvd, but now im secretly counting down the days till i get to see those loveable palsticine stars next. Don't tell my Dad though!

THE CORPSE BRIDE
Firstly if you have watched, and as i did loved, 'The nightmare before christmas' and were thinking of taking time out to see Tim Burtons Third foray into stop-motion animation then think again. This is not in the same league as its predecessor. Starring Johnny Depp and Helena Bohnam Carter it has the star credientials alright, but the end product is a huge let down. Burton and Depp have proved to be a dream combination on numerous occasions, i am one of their biggest fans. Movies such as Edward Sicciorhands, Sleepy Hollow and Charlie and the Chocolate Factory had me applauding them as collective geniuses. This new offering however, is simply not up to the high standard they have set.

Victor Van Dort (voiced by Depp) is a shy young artist, who when forced into a marriage of convience by his parents takes off into the woods to practise his vows. In the woods however he manages to end up betrothed to a 'Corpse Bride' and mayhem in the underworld ensues. Sound strange, maybe a little too strange? Then its definetly from the mind of Mr. Burton. The stop-motion filming is experted done, and the actors who lend their voices do a sterling job, with what is unfortunately a weak script. Burton is no doubt a great director and screenwriter, but this time it all falls just short.

The songs are not as memorable as in 'nightmare before christmas', and the charcters are all to forgettable. You are left wondering what is really going on most of the time, but you will be no more confused by the Characters. Victor seems to fall in and out of love and marriage every few minutes, while his eventual wife doesnt seem to mind that he was about to take his own life to live in the underworld with his new 'dead' wife. I know this is meant to be harmless fun, but its really just harmless nonsense.

I'm sure its not the last we have seen of the Depp/Burton combo, lets just all hope that the next outing sees a return to form for these two modern day greats.
