Willis Palmer founded Metropolitan Hospice while his wife suffered from the end stages of Alzheimers disease. A prolonged hospital stay was not the environment he wanted for his wifes final days.
Metropolitan Hospice offers 10 private inpatient rooms and visits 50-60 patients in their homes every week. Some patients need only a couple visits each week while others requires daily visits.
Although Metropolitan Hospice was established as a for-profit company, it gives free care to needy patients when possible. About 20% of Metropolitans clients are uninsured. Since Metropolitan began nine years ago, over $400,000 in indigent care has been provided.
