Circle of Love

Love is just a circle
That doesn’t have an end.
It doesn’t have a missing part
To tell where to begin.

Love is just a melody
That’s sung throughout the land.
The exuberant tune that carries on
That makes us all join hands.

Love is just a memory
That shadows people’s lives
It tells them of their souls and worries
And guides them through their strife.

And when it’s just not working
Maybe that’s for the best
Love is just a circle
And life is love’s great test.

First Love

You are like a breath of fresh air;
And uplifting song to my soul.
Being around you isn’t hard
But being afraid to lose you is.
As the seasons roll around
The light grows dimmer.
I know that by autumn
You will barely even know me.
Know who I am
Know how I feel
Know that I care.

When I first discovered my heart’s devotion
It wasn’t an easy thing to know.
Life without you wouldn’t be easy
Although life with and without you is hard enough.
Sometimes at night I wonder
Why everything even matters?
Why bother?
But then I remember you.
Your smile.
Your love
And your mind.

You are the solitary thing that keeps me going.
And even in the end, if it’s not you
That’s okay.
Because you showed me how to care and trust someone.
I know that now I love you,
Tomorrow I may love you,
But I will always know you were the first one.
The first one that I ever loved.

In the Midst of Confusion

In the midst of confusion,
A lonely heart lies.
The abrasive need to attach
Its strings to another
Washes away all desire.
A wayward connection
Deprives love of its true capabilities.
Two hearts
Tangled in a state of depression
With only a solitary chain of hope
To grab onto and escape.
And still, the soul
wanders until it finds
Another lonely heart,
In the midst of confusion.

Just a Dream

I often sit
And try to see
What life would be like
With you and me.

And in my head
I see the dreams
That a poet writes
While the sunshine gleams.

I start to travel
Far away
And hold, with me,
A mind of grey.

Then sitting and hoping,
I yearn for your heart.
Yet in my subconscious,
There is not a start.

My window’s a mirror
That reflects my love.
The mirror is sacred,
Sent from above.

You appear to be my king
While I am your queen;
But little do I know,
It’s only a dream.

Sun-Kissed

Sweet sun-kissed dreams
Leaving a joyous mirage
In my soul.
Nothing to hope for,
Nothing to care for;
Just a memory of the bright future.
And all the time
I know that nothing really matters,
Nothing really counts for tomorrow.
These close dreams,
Yet so distant,
Take up my unknowing mind
And leave me empty.
They tear me up inside;
These sweet,
Sun-kissed
Dreams.

Lesley Barth

You are but a watcher

You are but a watcher
To gaze upon my eyes
And repeatedly start to whisper
Your incandescent lies.

You are but a liar
That cannot tell what's real.
You act as though you really know
About true love's sweet appeal.

And if you are this dreamer,
And say you nothing true
Then why, oh why, do you have my heart?
And me in love with you?

Lesley Barth

Wonder

Wonder about the stars
But not about me.
Wonder about the ocean and its tranquil
Waves that have the ability for such violence.
But not about me.
Wonder about the planets
But not about me.
Wonder about the moon, whose vacant white
Light stimulates the imagination.
But not about me.
For I stand here now,
Just being true to you.

*alternative ending: For I do enough wondering for the both of us. (just kidding)
