The Rules…

Okay, here it comes…now, I’ve never written an article before, so bear with me please, if it reads a little strange. I hope you get the gist of my intentions!

Dating Non-Christians, right or wrong? Wrong! A lot of us young people these days see past what the Bible says because of all the sex and stuff going on around us, it seems right to have sex with your boyfriend or girlfriend before you get married, even some Christians that we know are sleeping together. It’s time to put our foot down! ‘Don’t let anyone look down on you because you are young, but set an example for the believers in speech, in life, in love, on faith and in purity.’ 1 Timothy 4:12. It says in the Bible that we, ‘The Young Generation’ should be setting an example to those older than ourselves.

I’m a big believer in no sex before marriage. It seems old fashioned, I know, but if I wait for the right guy to come along, and then wait until I’m married, I know God will make it worth my while. I won’t have the same problems other people have, I won’t get any sexually transmitted diseases, I won’t have an unwanted baby, I won’t feel dirty and God will make the experience perfect. If we date a Christian, then hopefully, he/she’s gonna have those same views. Many people have said to me, including Christians, ‘I don’t see the point in waiting, God only gave us rules so we could break them’ or ‘God gave us rules so that we didn’t hurt ourselves, if we choose to break them, then we can.’ Can you imagine what kind of example that is setting to Non-Christians? God doesn’t take kindly to people intentionally breaking the rules and then asking for forgiveness to go and do it again! We need rules, without them we’re lost; if we didn’t have them the world would be corrupt.

A lot of Christians I know are dating Non-Christians, they claim it as a way to bring that person to God, forget it! That’s not the way God set it out for us, this is the order…we pray for them, they get saved, then, and only then do we date them! Not the other way around. ‘Don’t become partners with those who reject God’ 2 Corinthians 6:14. They will pull you down and not build you up. A boyfriend/girlfriend should be like your best friend, you should be able to talk to them about everything. How can you talk to them about God if they don’t believe in him? In effect, you’re rejecting him too because you’re becoming like one with someone who rejects him.

When looking for a boyfriend, look for these pointers in this order. Are they a Christian? Do you really like the person? Are they going to pull you down or spur you on? Are you going to pull them down or spur them on? Can you be yourself with them? God will bring along the perfect person if you just sit tight and wait, his timing is perfect.

Don’t do this – When you meet a new person that you really like and the feeling is mutually so you ask them out on a date. You then ask them, are you a Christian? They say yes. Your friends ask you if your date is a Christian, knowing what the Bible says, you say, yes, he/she's a Christian. You know full well that they’re not! Most people believe that they are Christians if they have been christened. It doesn’t mean that they’re a Christian, ask them if they are a born again believer and if they have Jesus living in their heart! It’s easy to see past a faker!

The idea is, we’re Christians, we love God and he loves us so much that he died for us. But, he didn’t only just die for us, he died for all those other people out the too, they just haven’t accepted it. How can Jesus shine through us if we’re living a life like every other non-believer? Evangelism isn’t standing on a street corner shouting out the Gospel with a Billboard over your head. People will think you’re a total loser with nothing better to do and it makes Christianity look boring. Evangelism is living the life! Doing the right things yes, but having a living relationship that people see. Let them see Jesus in you, not you. Make your life attractive to others by being pure, and a very happy person!

If we’re not living a life that is pure and holy, then how will God use us to do mighty things? The devils attack will be stronger than we can handle because we’ve forgotten about Jesus.

Thanks for reading, I pray God has used me to make a point through this article and I hope he uses it mightily.

Claire Louise Huddleston.
