A hazy image appears on the hill in front of you. You stare hard through the falling snow to try to get a better look. It sits down and looks at you with shining amber eyes. You freeze in your tracks. The image stands and slowly makes its way to you, closer, closer. It stops in front of you and you see that it's a snow white wolf. It howls a low, long, haunting note and stops. She looks at you with those amber eyes again before fading into the strange breeze that suddenly picked up. Another howl rings through the air. At first you just stand there. She appears in front of you again, this time her eyes are a soft silver. She howls, but more wolves join in. They, too, appear on the ridge with their leader, their eyes shining through the still falling snow. They walk to you and enclose you in a circle. The group howls that haunting note again before they disappear. One is left standing with you, an ebony colored male. He looks up at you and begins to walk towards the hill. Half way up he turns and looks at you again, like he's pleding with you to follow. Do you follow the ebony brute to the unknown or slowly walk the other way?

You look about and sigh heavily. Pulling your hood tighter about your head you begin to trudge up the hill. The brute seems to give you a wolfish grin and he, too, continues on his way. He takes you to a snow filled clearing in the nearby forest. The clearing is what remained of his land. A few trees were scortched and blackened from a fire that had struck. The wolf sighed sadly and continued towards a large den. He stop outside the enterance and looks back at you. Figureing that your already here you might as well follow. You crawl inside the den after him and find the snow white female with two pups. Knowing that their job was done, for they got someone to follow, the wolves images began to fade. You follow the fading wolves back outside and watch the pack give one more howl. This one, however, was happier than their last because someone now knew what had happened to the Winter Valley Pack. As they vanish into the wind you bend down and pick up the pendent that had been around the female's neck. You slip it over your own head and begin to slowly walk home.

You take off your coat and boot and leave them in the foyer before heading to the kitchen. You make yourself some hot chocolate with mini marshmallows and turn on the TV. When you decide to go to bed it's about 10:00 PM. You turn off the TV and go to your room to put your warm pjs on. After slipping under the large quilt you reach over and turn off the lamp on the bed side table. After about four hours of sleep you wake to the loud whistling of the winter wind. You roll over to look out the window and scream upon meeting the amber eyes of the ebony male wolf.He howls sadly and vanishes in the next harsh gust of wind.
