LAS VEGAS RELOCATION TIPS

If you decide to relocate to Las Vegas, here is some
information you really need to know.
I will make this as straighforward as possible.
YOU draw your own conclusions.

First and foremost...
If you suffer from allergies or
respiratory/sinus problems...

DON'T GO THERE FOR RELIEF!!!!

99% of the plants and trees there were brought
from somewhere else and never were intended
by nature, to be there.
The pollen from all these different
plants and trees is overwhelming.
It coats everything.

There is construction EVERYWHERE that stirs up
a fine dust that blows all over the place.

The airport is right in the middle of town.
Flights arrive and take off every 2 minutes.
They burn off excess fuel when landing and
blow incredible amounts of exaust with each
take-off. Not to mention the dozens of jets
idling at any given moment, 24 hours a day.

You will develop chronic sinus infections
and a constant cough.
When you cough, all you can taste is dirt.

NEWS FLASH!!!
HELLO!!!
Las Vegas is NOT the place to take young children.

Las Vegas and its economy is based on
Tits, Ass, Sex, Booze and Gambling.
It's not called Sin City for nothing!

Keep your kids out of the casinos!

People go there to drink and gamble,
not to see your hyperactive 4 year old
or have to move our seat to let you get
by with your baby carriage which does not
belong there in the first place.

If you are under 21, you have no business in a casino.
THANK YOU!

If you are looking for a
CHEAP HOUSE
look somewhere else!
You can forget about finding anything there.
So many people have moved there, the prices
for new construction and apartments
have gone thru the roof, with prices rising daily.

The only houses left under $200,000 are in the worst
sections of the city. Dangerous ghetto neighborhoods,
trailer parks, condo conversions.
These are houses you will find for $40,000 or
less, anywhere else. Absolute dumps!
Trashy neighbors.

Just because something is expensive does not make it nice.
If it was a dump before the prices skyrocketed,
chances are, it's an EXPENSIVE dump now.
Good Luck and Be Careful!!!

You can still get a decent NEW condo for a reasonable
price, but you REALLY have to shop around.
There is not much left. These are mostly older
apartment complexes being converted to condo.
Be careful. Shop wisely.

The good news for BUYERS is that prices on "older"
condos have slid at least 15% during the end of 2005
and the beginning of 2006.

With the condo conversion frenzy taking place there,
there is an increasing amout of excess housing for sale.
Shop around, it is a buyers market now.

However....
With the redevelopment of the traditionally low income
North Las Vegas, a LOT of families have been displaced.
This has created small pockets of "New Ghetto" all over
the city.

In many condo complexes where an owner rents out a unit,
there are sometimes 2 or 3 families living in one apartment.
This could even be a 2 bedroom unit!!!
(another reason older condo prices have plummeted.)

The new, smaller condos being built EVERYWHERE are starting
from the $250s to $270s for a nice STUDIO which
may or may not be in a
flood zone.

Once you are in ...
you'll be at the mercy of the Home Owners Assn.
You also must be sure a complex is not involved with
any Class Action suits or, any other type of litigation.

New home construction is notoriously shoddy.
Everything is plywood covered with spray-on stucco.
Average space between houses is 8 feet.
No yard, no basement, walls and foundation slabs
that crack due to poor workmanship.
Entire neighborhoods flood after the slightest rain.
There is NO DRAINAGE.
EVERYTHING is paved over.

Once again, make sure the builder is not involved with
any Class Action suits or, any other type of litigation.
(KB Homes is being sued left and right.)

There are Casino jobs but
they are NOT easy to get.

Many pay a LOW minimum wage.
You should arrive with enough money to live
for at LEAST 6 months.

For almost ANY JOB...
You will need to get a Sheriffs Card. This means an
extensive background check and fingerprinting.
This costs money.

You will need to get a Health Card.
This means getting a hepatitis vaccination, taking
a test and you pay more money.

You will need to get a T.A.M. Card.
You have to go to an Alcohol Awareness class
and pay more money

If you have a revoked/suspended drivers license,
any outstanding warrants, owe outstanding
child support or have liens againt you
DON'T GO TO LAS VEGAS!!!
You are considered unemployable there.
Chances are, when you go to get a drivers license,
you will walk out of the DMV in handcuffs.

CASINO - HOTEL JOBS

To those who think they are going to
move there and just get a casino
job by going from casino to casino and
submitting applications at all of them thinking
you now have many many applications out there,
be advised of this...

Most of the casinos are not individually owned.
For instance: The Mirage, MGM, Mandalay Bay,
Bellagio, New York New York, Treasure Island
and others are all owned by the same company.

When you apply for that company, you may only
apply for ONE position at ONE of their casinos.
If you apply for another position at any other
casino in that "group", the previous application
gets tossed out. It is all computerized.

In other words, if you submitted 6 applications
at 6 casinos owned by the same company, the only
application that would be active would be the last one.
You may only apply once every 90 days.

This does not apply to ALL casinos. Ask first!
Also, try to apply online whenever possible.
It will save you and them a lot of time.
The application does not get "lost". They will
contact you sooner than you expect. Be patient.

Be prepared to supply a list of ALL jobs, residences and
down time for the past 10 years. (Yes, I said 10 YEARS!!!)
NO GAPS!!!!

If you are caught lying on an application, you
can forget working for ANY of the associated casinos
owned by whatever company it is where you applied,
EVER!!!

Having a past arrest record will not necessarily
disqualify you from employment as long as you have
satisfied the courts wherever the charge originated.
Just don't try to lie about anything on the application.

If you drink a lot or do drugs, don't even
bother to apply. They are VERY strict with their
Anti-Drug policies.
Most casinos take hair samples, not urine tests.
If you think you can get past it by perming your
hair or buzzing it all off, think again. They will
take hair from your armpits, chest or pubes!
Your best bet is to clean up your act at least 3 months
before applying for a job.

DRIVERS LICENSES

You will need a Nevada Drivers License to do ANYTHING.
Check out the Nevada DMV site.
There are over 20 states whos drivers
licenses are not recognized by Nevada.

BE SURE TO HAVE ALL REQUIRED DOCUMENTS!!!
BRING YOUR BIRTH CERTIFICATE!!!

Otherwise, don't waste your time, the employees
time or the peoples time waiting in line behind you.
No amount of begging or whining will get you a break.
You will just piss off a lot of people.

At the Las Vegas DMV, you can count on waiting for HOURS.
Be prepared to stand for a long LONG time.

PROFESSIONAL LICENSES

If you hold a professional license in another state,
be sure to get the paperwork started for transfer or
reciprocity before you move here. The Dept. of Licensing
is swamped with applicants and they do not have the time
to hold your hand and walk you through ANYTHING.

Arrive prepared or you will be making a lot of long distance
calls and faxes at your own expense. It's not their problem.
They don't care. They don't want to hear your sad story
or lame excuses and neither do the 50 people waiting in line
behind you, who brought the correct paperwork.

Also remember this...
No matter where you are, or where you go...
in the city, on the highway, in a store, hotel,
gas station, elevator, bus stop, parking lot, etc...
YOU ARE ON CAMERA
BEHAVE ACCORDINGLY

The bottom line is this...
BE DILIGENT
BE HONEST
BE PREPARED
HAVE PATIENCE

Once you get established, the minor inconveniences
will be behind you.
