The source of the Rabbinic Tradition of the last trump
of 1 Corinthians 15:52 is Pirkei Rabbi Eliezer - a
compilation of traditions which serve as a commentary
on the Five Books of Moses. Here is a quote from the
Midrash:
"The two horns of that ram have become Shofarim: the
left one was used by the Holy One on Mount Sinai, and
the right one - larger still - will be used by the Holy
One to gather the exiles of Israel to their home..."
(Pirkei Rabbi Eliezer 31).
The horn that practicing Jews blow on Yom Teruah
serves to remind G-d (so to speak) of the merit of
Abraham passing the test with his son Yitzchak which
actually occurred on the same day of the Hebrew
calendar. The festival of Shavuot is the
commemoration of the day the Jewish Nation received
the Torah on Mount Sinai - the time that the left
horn was blown. This is the day that Israel was
betrothed to the Lord God.
For Christians everywhere this should have significance
when read alongside the holy scripture, especially 1
Corinthians 15:52:
"Behold, I shew you a mystery: We shall not all sleep,
but we shall all be changed, In a moment, in the
twinkling of an eye, at the last trump: for the
trumpet shall sound, and the dead shall be raised, and
we shall be changed..."
Remember that Paul was trained as a pharisee for his
whole life before his subsequent life-changing experience
when he met Christ on the road to Damascus. He was
also more zealous than others for the "traditions of his
fathers". It is almost certain that Paul knew of this
rabbinical tradition. Was this what he was referring
to? God leaves that up to us to decide on our own, but
I pray that the Holy Spirit will guide all of us to the
truth on this matter, and all truth. May God bless you,
and may his Son Christ Jesus come SOON! AMEN
