Some manual processes are automated and a variety of reporting improvements and cost savings steps are implemented.

ENDEVOR IMPLEMENTAION (5)
Software inventory is comprised of numerous application programs and the components such as Cobol copy books, assembler macros and called subroutines which make up those programs .The discipline of managing the interrelation ships between programs and their associated components is called software configuration Management.
Fairway will use ENDEVOR to assist in software configuration management. This product will allow developer to be tracked and eliminate the possibility of corrupting another persons work. It also provides means for source management. As programs are moved to production, historical information is stored so a program can be retrieved in its previous state.
ENDEVOR will be used to enforce a migration path, manage source, Manage releases, ensure source code integrity, provide back binding and provides various other tools. ENDEVOR will also allow a unique environment for production and emergency changes without impacting development

NATIONAL CHANGE OF ADDRESS (NCOA) (8)
The united states postal service (USPS) implemented the MOVE UPDATE requirements of postal Reclassification .New standards effective July 1,1997, require companies to show that they are implementing a process to track their customers change of Address. Currently the USPS postal regulations require companies to implement MOVE UPDATE requirement up to six months prior to a mailing. USPS regulation also states that ZIP CODE VALIDATION process implemented every six months. This process requires a scrub of address base that will update zip codes. Without compliance of these regulations, customers will lose the postal discount for their first class pre-sort mail. The NCOA project is a development effort within fairway to comply with all postal MOVE UPDATE and ZIP CODE VALIDATION regulations so service agents can continue to receive pre-sort discount rates on all out going mail. This development involves batch programs in VS Cobol II/DB2 and unit testing.
Role: As a programmer/analyst, coded batch programs in COBOL and DB2 and tested the functionality through JCL's and XPEDITER

COBOL CONVERSION & FUND-CODE EXPANSION
COBOL II is IBM's newest COBOL compiler that runs on IBM mainframes. It is based on VSCOBOL language, which has been used for years. Since IBM dropped support OS/VS COBOL effective 1994. Many of the compiler restrictions have been lifted or increased with COBOL II compiler (such as numeric literal, table size, number of 01's, length of procedure division etc). COBOL II offers virtual storage constraint relief. We have converted and unit tested the programs.
Role: As programmer/analyst, converted the program logic and tested the functionality through JCL's and XPEDITER

Y2K Conversion
Involved extensively in y2k analysis, code conversion and testing for PRUDENTIAL NBS (prudential Minneapolis). Y2K analysis has been done by TCS reporting/analysis tool-cat, comprising primarily of QMF objects and REXX routines. Some of the objects are customised to suit the requirements of a project like various databases, date patterns and working-storage reports. In addition to QMF reports there are Cobol and Rexx based programs which generate special reports. The Casepac repository stores the confirmation flag, old format new format and the decision to expand in it. Reporting and date confirmation is done in an iterative manner till the confirmation is complete. The conversion phase involves running Identification tool and Modification tool .The Programs and copybooks from IBM will be downloaded to Unix and the corresponding tool will be run. The last step in this phase involves uploading of converted programs to IBM and then doing manual changes to converted code .The final phase involves the testing of the converted programs and copybooks using the appropriate testing tool.
Role: Involved in the analysis phase for Prudential FSPEE Y2K. Involved in preparing dummy programs, running cat on dummy programs and actual programs, loading copy books, attributes and relations to CASEPAC and loading program attributes and relations to CASEPAC. Casepack base reports are generated from which y2k reports are generated and finally global file is generated from y2k reports.

Developed a payroll information system for VOLTAS LTD, using Cobol. This system provides complete information (month wise, year wise) service, income and tax details of every employee in the organisation. The system tracked the number of hours of work done by the employees and computes their wages. This system developed employee personal files, grade master file, department wise file, medical report deductions file etc., A maintenance facility is provided to make any changes in the project. This system generates pay roll reports, attendance reports, grade wise reports and other earnings/deductions reports.
