Consultant, Object Resources Inc, KS
Onstream works on an Online Database to monitor and control the Shipping transactions using MFG/Pro software. They use external software, Visual Cyber Query, to generate user specific reports in excel format.
Visual Cyber Query, termed as VCQ, is a reporting tool, which produces reports based on the database it is connected to. It supports any relational and non-relational database. It helps ease any complex reports utilizing its advanced features on dynamic file creation, multiple file relations and Two Pass reporting technique. It links to the online system and creates equivalent reports, which can later be modified to the users convenience.
As the MFG/Pro system does not support the reports in xl format where the user has access to modify to the requirement, few of the reports are generated in VCQ to ease the user modify the details as needed. The VCQ tool is connected to the Production database of MFG/Pro thereby producing same result when running report in VCQ and in MFG/Pro.
Role on the Project:
Worked on VCQ for reports that are generated in MFG/Pro with user specific requirements.
Reports developed are:
Consolidated Shipment Trials in a date range.
Booking Transactions.
Shipment Transactions on Weekly basis, Period basis and on Daily
basis of transaction
Invoice revenue.
Balance sheet on monthly basis in a date range.
Graph on Customer Type & total shipped qty.
Developed flat files in the VCQ Data Dictionary that is used for
temporary storage of data for reports on Shipment .
Transactions by Period and Balance Sheet by month.
Verified the results with those in MFG/Pro and studied the program
coding and structure in Progress8.3b for MFG/Pro reports.

KAPES Maintenance Customization
Responsibility : Software Developer
Kapes (Knowledge Aided Planning and Estimation Systems) is an online automotive manufacturing process planning software. This is for MRP package developed as an interface to any ERP system like SYMIX or MFG PRO. This is used in shop and production floor. The large industry group like Marconi, FORD, Bajaj, GEC, Jaguar Cars, Rolls Royce etc. uses this software, The main modules used as utility tool are Production planning, Estimating and Costing. The system aims at solving growing problem faced by manufacturers and to control their supply chain of costs.
Kapes maintains a database for parts from raw material till packaging. It also maintains data about various costing parameters and related entities for Production planning and estimating.
Using these data, the system can produce and maintain accurate process plans and costing estimates with flexible procedures to cater for various Industries. Recently, this product has won the award, 'IT Product of the year - 1997' in Manufacturing Industry Achievement Award - one of the highest honors in the Engineering Industry, United Kingdom.
With the existing KAPES Version9, customer specific requirements and additional modules are developed and implemented. End users of Marconi and FORD groups using KAPES Version9 had functional requirements to modularize few existing modules and ease the application usage. The main customization is done in Routing and costing modules.
Role:
Onsite development and system requirement study were made in PS Industry, UK for a period of one-month. Interaction for system study and knowledge transfer for the FORD changes was made with the Clients in India. The timeline and the methodology used was discussed and implemented.
Invalid Costing reports at the node level of the Contract Issued Bill of Material data using Progress 4GL.
Indented Bill of Material structured reports for the Costing Parts using vsFlexGrid tool.
Ensure on the validity of the parts used in BOM structure while Costing using additional data definitions for the Parts details.
Management for the Operation Concurrency groups of the operations involved in Costing, Import and Upgrade modules
Provided flexible navigation in Routing Selection module where the routings/parts are selected in 10 levels categorized on their usage and in Finder module to trace parent-child traversal.
Developed new modules like Units Of Measure Maintenance and its impact on Costing related modules in Kapes
Handled training programs and was responsible for leading a team of 2 in Costing related modules
