This weeks story is from Tom White.
It was early wednesday during Cowes Dinghy week. I got up and whent down to the sailing club to set up my boat. I was ready pretty quickly and succesfully launched by ten oclock. It was particularly windy that day and my crew and I were having difficulties controlling the boat. Suddenly a huge gust of wind caught the sail and caused the boat to capsise. The situation was under controll untill the boat began to turtle! We managed to grab onto the boat before it floated of, but we could not right it because we couldnt get up onto it. Everything was against us as we drifted further and further away from the race and away from safety. None of the safety boats noticed as we drifted off into the distance but we knew if we let go we would be swept away even faster. We were past gurnard by this point and rapidly moving away from help. We needed to do something but what could we do? As the wind grew stronger and the sea choppier we nearly lost all hope of bein rescued untill in the distance we saw a small orange boat. It was a safety boat! Someone had obviously realised that we were missing and come to look for us. At last we were saved, but that still hasnt put us off sailing! |

How are the famous sailors doing? |
|
We can keep you up to date on how the famous sailors are doing. At the moment Ellen MacArthur is big news in the sailing world because of her round the world trip. At the moment she is a bit behind due to bad weather in the Atlantic, but everyone is keeping their fingers crossed for Ellen. She is supported bu B&Q who supplied a massive triamaran for her trip, which was displayed in cowes week last year. What do you think about Ellens voyage? e-mail us at hypedboats@hotmail.com and tell us your views. |
