Usher reportedly is looking to buy a piece of the Cleveland Cavaliers. The R&B crooner is among a group of investors, led by entrepreneur Dan Gilbert, who have agreed to purchase the basketball team for $375 million. If the deal is approved, Usher would join the likes of Jay-Z (New Jersey Nets) and Nelly (Charlotte Bobcats) as co-owners of NBA franchises.

Nelly is finalizing plans for a spring tour of major U.S. cities that will see Fat Joe and Fabolous taking on opening act duties. Before hitting the road, Nelly will play a handful of mainly Midwestern college shows, beginning with a March 7 stop at Southern Illinois University in Edwardsville, Ill.
A stomach virus landed Jessica Simpson in a Chicago hospital Monday, where she was treated for dehydration and then released. Jessica was in town to shoot a segment for The Oprah Winfrey Show. Titled "Red Carpet Makeovers With Jessica Simpson," the segment will air as part of Friday's pre-Oscars episode.
50 Cent's highly anticipated next album, The Massacre, is coming early to a candy shop, er, record store near you. In response to the disc being leaked to the Internet, the collection will now be released March 3 instead of March 8. The Net already is abuzz with Fiddy's heated diss track "Piggy Bank," in which he vilifies Fat Joe, Ja Rule and others.
Jennifer Love Hewitt's ABC comedy pilot was scrapped, but the actress has a new show in the works for CBS, a drama in which she'll play a medium who communicates with the dead. Also set for a return to the small screen is James Van Der Beek, who has signed on to star in the upcoming CBS comedy Three, about a married couple and their just-divorced pal.
Jay-Z plans to open an education center called The S. Carter Academy in New York this spring. The school's curriculum will concentrate on music, sports and fashion. Jigga and New York Knicks b-baller Jamal Crawford will appear together in a commercial promoting the school in March, which is when enrollment for classes begins.

Smallville star Tom Welling has signed on for his second-ever big-screen role. Tom will co-star with Lost actress Maggie Grace in a remake of the 1980 John Carpenter horror flick The Fog. The movie tells the tale of a boatload of vengeful shipwreck ghosts who wreak havoc on a Northern California town.
Hilary Duff, who recently guest-starred on the CBS series Joan of Arcadia, is about to make a special appearance on another prime-time show. Sarah Jessica Parker is set to star in and produce the upcoming movie Love Walked In. The film, based on a forthcoming novel by poet Marisa de los Santos, will center on Sarah's character, who's surprised to find out that her beau has an 11-year-old daughter that he left nine years before. The woman then forges a bond with the girl.
Usher's 20-minute mini-movie Rhythm City Volume 1: Caught Up -- which hits DVD on March 8 -- will get its theatrical premiere at 44 Regal theaters nationwide Monday at 9 p.m. ET. A woman accusing Colin Farrell of harassment and stalking found her case thwarted in a Santa Monica, Calif., court Wednesday. A judge informed Desarrae Bradford that her case could not proceed because the actor has not yet been served with the lawsuit. The judge has given Desarrae a month to serve Colin, who says he never met her.
R&B beauties Beyoncé and Jennifer Lopez have teamed up to battle soccer hunk David Beckham in a new Pepsi commercial. The martial-arts-themed ad, described as Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon meets Kill Bill, features the lovely divas showing off their fighting skills while clad in all-black leather jumpsuits. The commercial will premiere in Madrid near the end of the month.

50 Cent believes his upcoming album, The Massacre (due March 8), will garner more sales than his multiplatinum previous disc, Get Rich or Die Tryin'. "Yeah, I'll outsell it," he says. "If I sell it under, I feel like a failure. I know what's expected of me and I'm prepared a little more." Meanwhile, catch 50 performing on NBC's Saturday Night Live this weekend.
Bachelorette Jen Schefft reportedly has already split with her still-airing show's "winner," whose name has yet to be announced to the public. Alyson Hannigan says she was very nervous about her guest-starring stint on UPN's Veronica Mars, which airs Tuesday. "I am a huge fan of the show," she says.
