Hello and welcome to my ham radio homepage! My name is Bob Johnson and my callsign is KA1NMA. Amateur radio, also known as ham radio, is a very interesting and rewarding hobby. You get to learn about electricity, electronics, antennas, morse code and much more. Best of all you get to know and talk to people all over the world. You make many new friends and learn about many new and diverse cultures. You can operate through amateur radio satelites with small handheld radios and also through repeaters which send your signal far beyond the range of the small handheld radio. You can send signals to the Moon and bounce them back to another station in another part of the world. There are many modes of operation, such as morse code, radioteletype, slow scan television, analog and digital voice and many other digital modes using computers. The opportunities are many and the fun is endless. As well as having fun, you can get involved in Skywarn weather spotting and handling messages for hams as well as the general public in the National Traffic System. Also Echolink and IRLP are used to link repeaters as well as individual hams through VOIP linking. Opportunities also exist to support walk-a-thons, bike-a-thons and other charitable functions with communications. If you would like to know more contact any local ham, the ARRL (American Radio Relay League) or drop me an email and I'll try to answer your questions or will point you in the direction of those who can. I hope you will stop by this sight from time to time to say "Hi" and see whats happening in the world of ham radio.

FIELD DAY
BACKGROUND: Field Day has been an annual event sponsored by the American Radio Relay League (ARRL) since 1933. Each year for a 24 hour period during the last weekend in June amateur radio operators throughout the United States and Canada try to make as many contacts as possible by radio with other amateur radio operators. Operations during Field Day are intended to simulate operating conditions that would exist in an emergency situation; stations are set up in temporary locations and operated using portable generators and battery power.
