Mackinaw City is a small Michigan port and the terminus for ferry traffic to the resort of Mackinac (mack'i-naw) Island. The nearby five-mile long suspension Mackinac Bridge ("Big Mac") spans the the four-mile wide Straits of Mackinac. Mackinac Island is only three miles long and is situated in the Straits of Mackinac which connects Lake Huron with Lake Michigan. The island, which is coextensive with Mackinac Island City, is a noted resort with no vehicular traffic, only horse-drawn carriages.
