UNDER PREPARATION
Lake Michigan, some 300 miles long and third largest of the Great Lakes, lies between Wisconsin and Michigan and is the only one of the Great Lakes that is located completely within the US. Chicago is at the head of the lake which empties into Lake Huron via the Straits of Mackinac.
Lake Huron and Lake Michigan are connected by the Straits of Mackinac (mack'-i-naw) and can be considered a single body of water, a "Lake Michihuron", as the water levels are identical and other hydrographic characteristics are similar. If this were the case, then this continuous body of water would be larger than Lake Superior and could be considered the largest freshwater lake in the world.
