The Clarence, N.Y. Fleamarket!!

Clarence 2004

December 28th 2003

Back in December....there was an incredible Sunday for the weather. There was sunshine, & temps rose all day long. We decided to set-up at Clarence, & had a lot of fun for about 7 hours. We got to see friends, old customers, & fellow vendors, that we normally might not see again until April. It made for a nice way to start the year. Of course, 4 days later it started to snow....& has every day in January!

Ahhhh...sunshine...2 vehicles of stuff...good friends....customers....it doesn't get much better for December.

You can see looking down our row, that vendors & folks were sparse, but it did pick up later. Besides, we love just being out at the market!

Some awesome glassware was on display. These nice champagne glasses had gold edging on them. They were from the early 1900's. The sunshine had them glistening before I could get the pic!

A nice old bottle of Pathfinder's Springwater from Churchville, NY. The bottle was really big. The vendor wanted $45.00.

The lunchbox of the day....Kung Fu! Grasshopper...snatch the thermos from my hand...LOL!

An awesome little pinball game called, State Fair. It was in nice shape. I believe they were asking $90.

All in all we had a lot of fun! We even made about $150! Not bad for standing outside in the dead of Winter!

February 29th 2003

There is always somebody.....Shorts & a T-shirt! BRRRR!!!! The sun was shining but it was around the low 40's with a fairly stiff breeze.

There was a decent turnout of folks. There wasn’t a lot of room to park or setup, due to some persistent snowpiles.

I thought that was quite ironic! Alligator heads on display & for sale, with piled up snow behind them. Only in Buffalo!

This tin can was fairly big. It was about 12" tall with about a 10" width. It was locally produced.

This Dr. Pepper machine was nice! I had never seen one, plus this dispensed bottles.

This was a motorcycle that needed some help. It was from the 1940's. It looked beat, but sounded like it wanted to turn over. The vendor had already turned down an offer of $1,000! He was asking $1,450, & standing firm. I couldn’t tell you if it was a good deal or not, but it was definitely fun to look at!

Clarence 2003

March 16th

Sneak Peeks....We got up to the Fleamarket on a nice sunny day. The vendors were out in force!!

A really nice Victorian wash basin & pitcher. It was real, not a reproduction.

An incredible old bike. The vendor had it selling at a couple hundred dollars.

A fine example of some children's lounger type chairs. They were finished, beautiful, & exquisite!

The same vendor also had a all oak children's highchair!

We spotted this fantastic platter on the way out. It was California Pottery, made by Lane & Co., dated 1958. It was priced at $30, we got it for $20!!

April 13th

A fantastic little Marx train! The refrigerator car was marked the Colorado & Southern Railroad!

The Heinz Baked Bean crate had an Victorian rug beater on it.

The side of the crate had an even better image!

This child's chalkboard had an image of an old airplane & a Zepplin blimp!

I'm pretty sure that this was an old Pinewood Derby race car. The vendor was asking $15.00!

You can usually find old sand pails with great lithos on them. This was quite unique. It was a pan that held water, but had a pump that you could crank the water up thru! It would just recycle the water as you cranked it!

The same vendor had a nice Munsters metal lunch box too!

All day, I looked at this crock. The vendor across from us had it. It was a fantastic old Redwing crock. I could tell that it was the real deal, by both the red imprinted label, & the the blue oval label. It had a minor chip on one edge, but for $75.00, it was well worth it! You don't see these very often!

A 1948 Chris Craft model boat. I was told that it came out of an old marina display in Rochester.

And finally, a real Coke tip tray. It had some definite rust on the front, but a great piece overall. Do you know who the 2 folks are on it? Supposedly, a young Maureen O'Hara & Johnny Weismuller(Olympic star & Tarzan actor)!

Easter Sunday!

We recently decided to give a look around on Easter Sunday this year. We had never done it. So, we took a peek. I just took 3 pics, but it was still a pleasant day.

We had setup to sell that day. Our neighbor across the roadway had a quite beautiful antique lamp. The shade on it was just as nice as the lamp itself. I believe he was asking $110. He had re-wired the lamp too!

I couldn't believe it when I spotted this fantastic Julia lunchbox from 1969! The show was famous for numerous reasons. First & mostly, she was the first primetime African-American TV star with her own show as the star! Secondly, merchandise or items relating to this show are extremely rare! A 1997 price guide has this lunchbox priced at a whopping $110.00! I didn't get the vendor's price or if the thermos was with it. Oh, yes...the price guide had the thermos at $45.00.

This is a fine example of a 1967-69 Schwinn Sting-Ray bike! The long chrome bar on the back was called a "sissy bar". I found out that these options are no longer available or legal. Give me a break. The vendor also customized the bike, by putting exhaust pipes on it! A very cool bike!

May & June

Well, we've been quite busy so we hadn't gotten too many chances to visit Clarence. We did find some nice items though!

This Bernz-a-Matic lantern was really unusual. It was cool looking, but it really didn't look too safe.

This beer bucket was nice. It even had the tap system with it. Now picture this in the yard with you on a hot summer day.

Pics from the Summer!!

Every now & then, someone will show up with a great car! The license plate said 1937, but I didn't catch the make. It may have been a Hudson. Either way, it was beautiful!

This vendor always has incredible glass, & as always, he had a fantastic vase! It was what they call Check Glass, or Czechoslovakian glass.

This old churn was made of metal. It had been repaired too. I can't help but wonder if there was lead in the seams.

California pottery is a new & exciting craze. The west coast is showing big prices, while here in the East, only some folks know the market. Recently, about 50% of the local vendors have shown, new higher prices. This extremely rare lamp by the Hagar California Pottery Co., was beautiful, & at a great price!

I am by no means a Roseville expert, but this piece caught my eye. The form was unique. The price $95.00 was excellent. It was by no means an imitation. There are a lot out in the markets, so know your pieces.

I got a great story from the vendor about this wheelchair. He went to a recent Estate Sale, & discovered this beauty in a room, with junk piled on it. The person at the sale, didn't know about it, & the room had only been unlocked after about 40-50 years! The vendor got it for $10.00!! He was asking $50.00 or B/O at the market. It was dusty with some of the wicker seat busted, but a fantastic item!

Recently in one of the buildings at Clarence, we found this old telephone operator's station. It was really wild looking. Can you say...One Ringy-Dingy...Ah two ringy-dingy!!?

Here's another great phone item! Did you know that when these were in use, you could get a free phone call? You just unscrewed the mouthpiece, touched it to the square metal coinbox plate, watched for a small spark, & presto...instant dial tone!

A great old push/pull pedal car! It may have been a English or Canadian version.

The same vendor had a incredible old Doepke kid's train car! He also had 50 feet of track to go with it!

Another fantastic old car in the parking lot. I couldn't tell you what it is, but the front grill looked like an old radio dial!

These rare cups were in fantastic shape. There was Orphan Annie, Howdy Doody, & another. I believe these cups were thru an Ovaltine offer. I could be wrong.

The Remco Toy Co. made a lot of great items. This was a set that could be used with Barbie. A lot of little girls remember these type accessories.

This is a pristine collection of very early Roseville pottery. It is creamware, from a series for children. It has rabbits & chicks. I had never seen so many pieces from this series, often referred as the "Mother Goose" series.

An old Xmas time mechanical store display from the old Scranton's Dept. store from Rochester, NY.

This vendor was Australian, & selling a tricyle from back home. The curved steel back was unusual.

I had an instant flashback to the the late 1960's when I spotted this old store display for Mani-Yacks! These were a generic version of iron on transfers. They were like the Rat Fink, Big Daddy series.

And finally....

This past Sunday, we discovered a vendor who had some classic Aurora model kits! These kits were from 1969. There is also a 1972 version but these were 69! Rarely do you ever find these. Let alone, not assembled! The prices were excellenbt for all of these. Incredibly, the vendor informed me, that none of the 4-6 regular modell collectors had been by yet! I'm sure if any of these guys spotted these kits, they would have been long gone!!

A 1997 price guide had the Mummy's Chariot priced out, Mint in Box, at $450! Their asking price of $200 was worth every penny!

The Mummy booked at $150, priced here at $80!

The Hunchback & the Phantom also had indentical book values, & selling prices! Seeing these was a real treat for me!

The colors in this crock were bright & vibrant. I had never seen a crock this colorful!

The same vendor had a hatchett from around 1790. It looked real. I had already considered it from the 1700's before he had mentioned it. He had it priced at $450. A good price indeed.

These are the Russian figures that fit inside each other. Notice how samll they would get. They were beautiful.

This slot machine was reconditioned but the real thing! It later sold for $1800!

I had seen Kodak Boy Scout Brownie cameras before, but you usually don't have the original box with it!

A nice set of 1950's aluminum cannisters. These type items are just starting to take off for collectibility.

This incredible Casper the Ghost, pajama bag was still in it's original package!

This little guy was a great deal. He was made by Excel Toys, & is very hard to find! It was from a series called, "Legends of the West". We paid $5.00 for him.

This vendor had an amazing 3 piece portable dental set! It looked to be for a traveling dentist. I would estimate that it was from the 30's by the design of the cabinet.

The same vendor had a hand crank washing machine. You would crank the handle back & forth to move the agitator. It still worked & was complete!

The "Buy it Before I Burn it" sign was very amusing. She must of had a good day, because we never spotted any smoke!
