On top of the development of the Final Fantasy Collection and the release of Final Fantasy VIII, Square is deep in development of its most impressive work, Final Fantasy: The Movie. Utilizing an enormous budget and the latest technologies, Square has once again shown their unbelievably impressive talents in this latest project.
Final Fantasy: The Movie isn't shot using cameras and film, but like its predecessors, computer generated. Despite the amazing realism, none of the movie is actually real. Character movement and action, otherwise known as body language, is a big key in adding to the realism of this "fantasy". Shown in this Japanese television shot, the famous "old man" and another female character demonstrate this realism at its maximum extent. Skin texture, eye dialation and blinking, and mouth and jaw movement are all depicted by this demonstration footage.
Photos and rumors of Final Fantasy: The Movie have floated around the Internet for quite sometime, but never before has the quality of the animation ever been seen.
Final Fantasy: The Movie is being produced in Hawaii by Square USA under Columbia Pictures and is scheduled for release in 2001. Square says the movie will take place on Earth in (or around) 2065 and will contain the same "life and death" type story which has inspired and captivated the essense of the Final Fantasy series for over 10 years.
