Geiranger (gay-rang'-er), a tiny village located deep in the Norwegian fjord country at the head of Geirangerfjord, is a visitor's favorite. A twelve-mile road leads past the Flydalsjuvet Gorge viewpoint up to Dalsnibba and its glacier at over 5,000 feet of altitude.
As the last ice sheet retreated, it left a high plateau gouged out by glaciers into a U-shaped, water-filled valley with long, narrow lakes in the upper regions. Geirangerfjord, with its overhanging cliffs and numerous waterfalls such as the noted Seven Sisters Waterfall, is thought by some to be the most beautiful of all.
