Yep I finally fixed this link. C'mon people please tell me if there is a broken link! Its hard to remember all the links! Just click the mail button near the botton of the page.
Breeding Chao can be difficult for a beginner. The main thing to remember and practice is patience. With out patience Chao will die, the Chao breeder will become frustrated and then Chao breeding isn't fun anymore. It's actually quite easy once you get the hang of it, but like I said. At first it can be quite difficult. To start out you'll need at least one regular Chao found in any Garden. They look like the picture below :
This little guy doesn't produce any special Chao (At least no one has found a way yet). When I say "Special" I don't mean a Sonic Chao, or any other type of Chao that is Morphed, what I mean is Special like "Gold" or "Silver". Although breeding it with another "Gold" or "Silver" Chao can produce another "Gold" or "Silver" Chao.
Getting Started
First you need to get your Chao to evolve into an adult. A baby Chao can't breed with other Chao's, mainly because it's immoral, but also because it's to young. By giving it alot of hugs and coconuts you can make your Chao evolve into an adult. When you accomplish this task you are now ready to breed your Chao.
To get started you might want to use a VMU. In Chao Adventures you can play a memory game, and in this game you can win a LifeNut. Give the LifeNut to your Chao outside of the VMU and flowers will start to sprout out on the ground around your Chao. This is how the Chao tells you that it's ready to mate. Bring another adult Chao over to your Chao that's in the "Mood" and set it down beside it. After a brief second or two an Egg will pop out. Now once in a while I've had a Chao pop out an egg without another adult around. If this happens be thankful and go about your business and don't ask any questions. Breeding Chao like this will also age your Chao and make it a likely candidate for De-Evolving or Death. If the Chao your breeding isn't happy, or the affection rate isn't high enough towards the Character that you use to take care of your Chao with, or it's hungry, tired, etc... will kill it. If you don't like or want to use the VMU trick then you can take care of your Chao until it feels it's ready to mate. Of course your Chao may not feel like mating ever if you wait for it to get into the "Mood" on it's own. The 3rd way is probably the best and doesn't Kill or Age your Chao at all. And that method is through the VMU. If you have two VMU's you can select the option to mate and connect them together. This will also produce two Eggs instead of one. One Egg for each VMU.
Advanced Breeding
Advanced Breed is done to produce Special or Rare Chao. Some of these Chao's need to be found first to complete the steps necessary to produce two more Rare Chao. A list of these Chao is found below :
This is the Ebony Chao. (Or at least my best attempt at drawing one :) He can be found in the Egg Carrier with Amy Rose or Gamma E-102. In the Jail Cell next to Amy Rose's Jail Cell there's a Black, Blue, and Red Egg. Jump on the button and take the egg to the Egg Carrier Chao Garden. This garden is found past the EggLift. Jump on the buttons to spell out E.G.G.M.A.N. and you'll be let in. The Ebony Chao is also the main key in breeding two other Rare/Special Chao.
The Silver Chao can be found in Mystic Ruins under the water fall. To the right of the water fall is a huge stone button. Push the button in with any character and the Silver Metallic Egg will float to shore. When it finally reaches the shore line, pick it up and take it to the Mystic Ruins Chao Garden which is found Past Tail's House on your left. Take the mining cart on your right. This Chao is needed to make the Obsidian Chao.
The Obsidian Chao is a Rare/Special Chao that can't be found anywhere in Sonic-Adventures. It is only bred when an Ebony Chao and Silver Chao are mated together. Your best chance in getting one of these is to find the Ebony and Silver Chao and mate them in VMU's. It is possible to mate the Ebony Chao with a Silver Chao and get an Obsidian Chao in anyone of the Chao Gardens, but I haven't seen this done.
The Gold Chao can be found in Station Squares Antique Shop. You'll need the Rock in front of City Hall in order to obtain this Egg. Once you have the Rock, place it somewhere in the Shop and take the Gold Egg off of it's pedestal and place it somewhere in the shop. Now pick up the Rock and place it on the pedestal. Now pick up the Golden Egg and take it over to Station Squares Chao Garden which can be found in the Motel. Take the elevator to your left.
The Bronze Chao is very simular to the Obsidian Chao. It to is a Rare/Special Chao that can only be found through Breeding. To get this Chao Mate a Golden Chao with an Ebony Chao. This Chao can not be found anywhere in Sonic-Adventure just like it's cousin the Obsidian Chao.
EVOLUTION FOR DUMMIES
---------------------
The Four Basic Chao to start with are all based from the Skills a Chao has. What I mean by this is simple. A Chao has Four Basic Skills they are :
1) Swim
2) Fly
3) Run
4) Power
By giving your Chao Animals that boost these skills, you start to turn that Chao into one of these type of Basic Chao.
Example : Making a Speed Chao
I want a Speed Chao so I give a Chao, Green based Animals because I'm trying to make a Sonic Chao. Now everyone who knows Sonic knows he's Fast! And Green Animals raise the running skill. I keep giving my Chao these Animals ( Rabbits / Wallaby / Deer ) and after about 20 - 30 Animals you should notice that he's turning Green and Growing Three Horns on the Back of his Head! Once he Evolves into an Adult Chao you'll also notice that he's getting Dark Green Stripes.
This Chao is now a Speed Chao or a GREEN>NOTHING type Chao.
"But I don't WANT a Green Speed Chao! I want a SONIC Chao!"
Now the above line is what most new Chao Breeders scream when they see this Chao. The Breeders that give up from disappointment, call the Boards looking for answers. When they finally DO find the answer they usually smack their forehead and wish they would have continued. Those who didn't even bother calling the Boards are the ones who missed out because it's usually a week or so before they finally find the Answer. :) Now to continue with the Basic Four Chao.
The Basic Four Chao's are the Basic Four Skills that Every Chao has. To get this Chao just do the example but with the basic Skills or for a better example :
GREEN > Nothing = Speed Chao
YELLOW > Nothing = Swim Chao
PURPLE > Nothing = Fly Chao
RED > Nothing = Power Chao
These Four Chao are absolutly the Chao Needed to make Other Types of Chao. For Example you need the Speed Chao to make a Sonic Chao, Swim Chao to make the Alien Chao, etc... if this explanation confuzes you and you need an even Better Explanation then send mail to any of the CGi members or post a question about it on the Sonic-Adventure Boards under Chao Chat. Please at least try it yourself first. You'll be quite happy with the results of experimenting yourself rather than get a new Chao from someone on the boards.
Alien Chao
----------
Type : Swim Chao
Yellow > Yellow Chao
Animals : 200 - 300
The Alien Chao is a small Green and Yellow type of Chao that looks like... well an Alien. You get the Chao by feeding a Basic Swim Chao more Swim Animals / Yellow based Animals. You'll need about 200 - 300 animals until it finally looks right.
Other things you can do with the Alien Chao is make a Darth Vader Chao. Just make an Obsidian Chao into an Alien Chao.
NiGHTs Chao
-----------
Type : Fly Chao
Purple > Purple
Animals : 200 - 300
The NiGHTs Chao is from another AI game that Sonic Team made a while ago. He's got two long Tail like Jester horns and is all purple. You get him by feeding a Basic Fly Chao more Purple Based Animals. You'll need 200 - 300 until he starts to look like a NiGHTs Chao.
Sonic Chao
----------
Type : Speed Chao
Green > Green
Animals : 200 - 300
The Sonic Chao looks like our favorite HedgeHog Sonic. He even does the Spin Dash attack every once in a while. To get this Chao you need to start with a basic Speed Chao and keep giving him Green Based Animals.
Other Things you can do with a Sonic Chao is make a Mecha Sonic. This is accomplished by making a Sonic Chao out of a Silver Chao. Okay so the Chao dosen't have any Mechanical parts like Mecha Sonic, but he does look SORTA like him. :p
Dragon Chao
-----------
Type : Power Chao
Red > Red
Animals : 200 - 300
The dragon Chao is all Red with a few Orange Stripes around it's horns. This Chao has also been called a Ghost Chao, but why it's called that I can only guess is because it's head looks like Casper the Friendly Ghost's Head. You give this Chao Red based Animals, about 200 - 300 until it starts to look like a Dragon. It has two long horns that come off the back of it's head and the body stretches out real long if you continue to feed it Red type animals.
God Chao
--------
Type : Any
Animals : ??? - ????
The God Chao can be any Chao as long as all the Chao's Skills are maxed out. Once all it's Stats are maxed at 999 you'll notice that he moves at a rate that only "God" could. This can best be accomplished by using the VMU's Memory game and winning ChaoNutz / Grapes / Cherries / Lemons / and Plums, then feed it to your Chao. Some people believe that the best way is to give your Chao as many Animals as possible, but this practice deforms your Chao and also while out of the VMU your Chao Ages. If your Chao Devolves then your Chao's stats also are lowered.
Light Chao
----------
Type : Light
Animals : 15
The light Chao is difficult to breed and very rare, but is well worth the time and effort to breed. In order to get this special Chao you must first make the Chao de-evolve 2 times, making this a 3rd generation Chao. The best way to do this is by winning LifeNuts in the Chao-Adventures Memory game, located in your VMU when you take your Chao for a walk. After winning a LifeNut, give it to your Chao outside of the VMU in any Chao Garden and have an another Adult Chao waiting to mate. After mating the same Chao a few times, that Chao will de-evolve back into an egg. But it will only become an egg if you treat your Chao with Love, Hugz, and feed it coconuts until it burst open.
HINT : Mate your Chao with other Rare Chao so you can get more exotic Chao in your Gardens. ][ See Ethnic for more info. ][
After you have repeated the above process twice, you are well on your way to breeding a light Chao. Now you must give it one of every type of animal that can be found in Sonic-Adventures, action stages. ][ See Animals for more info. ][ Be careful and quick when giving you Chao one of every animal, if you Chao evolves without all animals, then you have to start all over again. It only takes about 10 animals to evolve it this way because of the LifeNutz and mating. And there are 15 total animals to give your Chao. So you can just imagine how many Chao have died a VERY violent death when their Guardian (YOU) goes through all that trouble and the Chao decides they want to be something else other than a Light Chao.
Now if you've made it this far and your Chao is still alive, the only remaining step is to win a ChaoNut from the memory game in your VMU and feed it to your Chao outside of the VMU. If all was done right and your Chao is happy with you, then you should see your Chao Evolve into an egg, closer examination of the huge egg will reveal stars floating from the egg. When the Egg starts to become transparent you will finally see what is known as a Light Chao.
