Hey all! It's me again, Chris Moody. As most people know, sports are my life. I don't take sports as lightly as other people, that's cause sports were like the first thing I knew in life. Also I'm good at sports and I hate to lose. So on this homepage I'm gonna share with you some sports memories, update you on some of the current events in sports that I care about, and give you some of my opinions in the sports world.
I started playing sports at an early age. My dad had a ball in my hands when I was young and ever since then I've always been a sports fanatic. Some memories stay with you for the rest of your life. I'm gonna share with you some of my sports memories.
Football:
---I can't remember my first basket I ever made in basketball, I can't remember my first base hit in baseball, but I can remember my first ever touchdown in football. I was 5 years old and we were playing the Bengals. I ran around the outside and tight roped down the line for the score. I think I scored twice that game, but I can't remember that much.
---I can remember playing football when I lived on the Azores, so I was about 8 or 9 years old. The high school kids I used to play with used to call me Rice cause I would catch everything thrown in my direction. I also remember taking a few good hits but I always bounced right up.
---I remember playing football on the Raiders back when I was in the 5th grade. We won like 1 game the whole season but it was fun. I remember getting grabbed by the jersey and spun around two times before being slammed to the ground. I remember laying there in a daze. It turned out I received a mild concussion.
---I remember my first game for Edison Jr. High. I was in the 8th grade and I was a quarterback. It was my first game at the jr. high level. I remember the game going real fast and I had a hard time getting adjusted to speed of the game. I know in the end we tied the first game.
---I can remember a lot of my jr. high games, but more importantly I remember throwing a lot of touchdown passes. I remember throwing one touchdown pass to my tight end, Daunte, then getting leveled by an Abline High player. When I got up my left shoe was half off and the air was knocked out of me. Even to this day I can still feel the effects of that hit.
---I can remember my back up, Boyd, on the sideline strapping up his helmet many times thinking he was going to play after I got knocked down. Then he'd get that disgusted look on his face and I would just smile.
---I remember playing in every game for Central when I played j.v. football. My most memorable moment on the field had to be when we played Abilene Cooper and I ran a bootleg 45 yards just to have a holding penalty called and run back 55 yards to the huddle. Needless to say I was tired. Then the coach called the same play to the opposite side, this time I passed the ball.
---I can also remember while on j.v. some of my friends meeting at my house on game day. My mom always made sure her day off was the day I played my games so she could attend them. So my friends Fidel, Roy, Onion, Boo, and Jacob would all go to my house before we had to go to the field house and get suited up. My mom would make us some great tasting mexican food then we'd go in my sisters room and play Madden 2000 on my sister's N64. We always played on two teams; Cowboys and 49ers. Fidel, Jacob, and myself were 49er fans so we were the 49ers. Roy, Boo, and Onion were Cowboy fans so they were the sorry Cowgirls. The 49ers always won!
---It was brought to my attention by my babygirl, sister, that I forgot to mention the *most important* memory of my playing days. My sister loved to go and watch me play and I loved having her there. But she didn't go to see if we won, or to see if I played a good game. But she did go to see me play. You may be asking yourself why she wanted to see me play. Well, using her words the best that I can, "I love to see you get hit! You're like a pin-ball machine. You get hit here, then end up over there!" The whole time she is telling me this she is laughing too. She also used to say, "Whenever you are under pressure and you don't get hit I'm like, "Darn!. Why don't you hit him! Then when you do get knocked down and you're slow to get up I hope you're okay, but then when you get up I'm like 'Good hit! Do it again!'" That's my sister for you. Loving support right there.
Basketball:
---The main basketball memories I have are from jr. high. I can remember being called the best free throw shooter by my teammates all three seasons. I remember my coach having me shoot all the technical foul shots and telling me to try to draw the fould so I could shoot free throws.
---I remember in the 8th grade I scored high point one time with 16 points. I believe we were playing Lincoln Jr. High.
---My freshman year I remember my team winning the Colorado City Tournament. We also broke 100 points versus Grape Creek H.S. junior varsity team. The final score was 106-24. Bad news was, we lost the City Championship Game to Lee Jr. High.
Baseball:
---I remember when I was on Okinowa, Japan, I hit a ball over an apartment building. My dad was pitching me the ball and I hit this ball solid and it went over the opposite apartment building. I'm pretty sure it rolled on the top, but it had enough power behind it to go over the other side. I was maybe 3, so this was a great accomplishment.
---I remember playing baseball on the Padres, coached by my friend Tomas, and challenging my friend Michael to see who could hit the ball farther. He one hopped it then it hit the fence, I topped him by hitting the fence in the air.
---I also remember while I was on the Padres, we played the only team to beat us all season the last game of the season. I was the catcher and this one player popped one up foul and near the opponents bench area. I ran over there and jumped on the fence and reached over and caught it. Then since they were the only team to beat us and there parents were sort of snobs, I showed off the ball that I caught as to taunt them. I can still remember looking over at Tomas and seeing him laugh and say, "Good move Chris."
Sports Update:
---I'm a big Utah Jazz fan. This 2000-2001 season has been full of records being broken by the dynamic duo of John Stockton and Karl Malone. Karl Malone this season, on Tuesday, December 5, 2000, passed Wilt Chamberlain into second place on the all time scorers list only trailing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Kareem played 20 seasons to set his record, Karl is playing in his 16th season. I don't know if Karl will play 20 seasons, but I believe by the time he retires he will be somewhat close to passing him. Karl also passed Moses Malone on Saturday, March 24, 2001, into first place on the all time free throws made. John Stockton, already the all time leader in steals and assists, is going to be moving into 3rd place all time in games played on Friday, March 30, 2001. He will be passing Moses Malone into 3rd place only trailing Kareem Abdul-Jabbar and Robert Parish.
---I'm also a big 49er fan. The greatest 49er to ever play on the 49ers or in the NFL for that matter, is Joe Montana. Joe Montana was inducted into the Hall of Fame this past summer '00. Joe Montana was player in NFL History to be nambed Super Bowl MVP in two consecutive years. Joe was named Super Bowl MVP a Super Bowl record 3 times after leading the 49ers to the Super Bowl 4 times, winning all 4. Montana held the record for Super Bowl touchdown passes with 5. The only player to beat Joe's record with 6 touchdown passes in the Super Bowl was Steve Young, who also played for the 49ers.
---I'm also a fan of the Central H.S. Lady Cats softball team. I am a big fan on the centerfielder, Isabel. Isabel made second team all district her sophomore year and made first team all district her junior year. This year, her senior year, she is poised to once again repeat and make first team all district. The Lady Cats started the season real well but since they entered district play have stumbled a little bit. Last season, 2000, they won one game in district. So far this year, they have won 3 out of 6. So they are doing better than what they did last season. I'm sure they will pick up and play better though.
History:
---John Stockton is the player I would try to immulate on the basketball court. John Stockton is about 6-1, 6-2, give or take a few inches. John Stockton was born on March 26, 1962. He attended Gonzaga University and graduated from there with a major in Business in 1984. He was named to the NBA's 50 greatest players in 1996 when the NBA celebrated their 50th year anniversary. John Stocton was co-MVP of the all star game held in Salt Lake City in 1992 with who else but Karl Malone. John won gold medals in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. John Stockton holds the all time record for most steals and assists ever in the NBA. In my opinion, he is the greatest point guard to ever play the game.
---Karl Malone is about 6-9 and in my opinion, the greatest power forward to ever play the game. Karl Malone continues to amaze critics and his peers by his amazing physique and his athletic ability. Karl was born on July 24, 1963. He attended Louisianna Tech University and graduated college in 1986. He was named to the NBA's 50 greatest players in 1996. Karl was named co-MVP of the all star game held in Salt Lake City in 1992 with his long time partner, John Stockton. Karl has won gold medals in both the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. He is now 2nd on the all time scorers list and 1st in free throws made for his career.
---Joe Montana was born in New Eagle, Pennsylvania, on June 11, 1956. Joe Montana was 6-2 and said to be the greatest quarterback to ever play the game. In my opinion, they are right. Joe went to Notre Dame where he led them to a National Championship in 1977. Joe was chosen in the third round by the 49ers in the 1979 NFL Draft. By 1990 he had won 4 Super Bowls and named Super Bowl MVP 3 times. In 1989 he was named NFL MVP. In 1993 Joe was traded by the 49ers to the Kansas City Chiefs for the Chiefs No. 1 and No. 3 draft picks. In 1995, Joe Montana retired. The summer of 2001, Joe was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with former 49er, Ronnie Lott, former Raider, Howie Long, and 2 more elite members.
That is all for this page for now. I will update this site when I have more stats and records to post. Please feel free to sign the guestbook if you wish.
