Cozumel (San Miguel), a small port city on Mexico's largest island of the same name, is located eleven miles east of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. The island has become a popular tourist resort with emphasis on beaches and the offshore reefs to the west of the island. The cruise ship destinations of Playa del Carmen and Puerto Calica are on the mainland shore directly to the west of Cozumel.
