Puerto Cortes (or Puerto Cortez) is located on the Caribbean in the northwesternmost part of Honduras very close to the Guatemala and Belize coastal regions. It is the outport for San Pedro Sula, the industrial center of the country, which is forty miles to the south. Its principal exports are agricultural products, largely bananas, coffee and sugar. Copan, one of the important Mayan ruins, is 80 miles to the southwest or about a 3.5-hr drive.
