Puerto Calica, a relatively new cruise ship port with an extensive pier, is located four miles south of the popular resort of Playa del Carmen which requires ships tender their passengers to shore. It is situated on the eastern shores of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of Quintana Roo. The port also is the terminus of a ferry that services the island of Cozumel some twelve miles to the east. The very popular Xcaret theme park is located one mile to the north.
