One day, in 1989, out on the beach at Mana, Kauai, I was having lunch with some friends. The sun was very hot and there was very little shade around. By the time the sun began to set, every one was pretty tired. One by one, we packed our cars up headed for the long drive home.
I was the last one to leave. As the sun set in the horizon, I stopped to see if I could catch a glimpse of that fleeting "Green Flash"" that occurs over water as the sun disappears. I caught it all right. But this time I watched it shoot across the sky and pass over my head. I knew I couldn't be seeing the green flash. It had to be something else. It traveled towards Hanapepe. I continued to pack up my things and headed for home. I tried not to think about it. What could I do anyway?
As I was driving passed Waimea Canyon, I could see a light glowing far into the canyon. It is so easy to see stars and lights out there because there are so few streetlights and homes out there. At the time, I thought it must be campers. But now that I think about it, I wonder if it could have been something else?
