I noted in your site that you have links to AYH. Would it be possible to ask you for some references as to the descendants of AYH? I can trace my family tree back to circa 1850 - where the father of a great grand mother (b circa 1840) was named Avraham Yeshua Heschel Stumler. I note that the Apter Rav lived 1755-1825, so this man would have been a grandson of the apter rav. These roadblocks included not being able to find my grandmother's arrival records on EllisIslandRecords.com, even though I knew her year of arrival and had found my grandfather's ship arrival information on the web site even though the year there was wrong, as was the "sounding out" of his first name yielding an incorrect rendering by the ship's personnel who did the recordkeeping. My grandmothers father was, Rabbi Hessie Landau of Bresnitz, Ukraine. His father was Yeshua Avraham Landau, the Chief Rabbi of Bresnitz, Ukraine. R. Hessie Landau was killed 3 months before my grandmother was born, which would have been about June of 1886. He had two other children, Yankel (male) and Rosaleah (female) besides Hessie Fruma. I don't know what his wife's name was. I have no idea of Chief Rabbi Yeshua Avraham Landau's time of tenure in Bresnitz, nor of the name of his wife or any of his other offspring. For what it may be worth as a link, Hessie Fruma Landau came to the US in 1910 where she met and married my grandfather, Mordechai (Max) Zev Sapowitz, from Vilna, Lithuania, that same year. Mordechai had a brother, Benjamin, and a sister, Minnie, both of whom I know nothing more about. I do have some additional facts about Hessie Fruma's sister Rosaleah if they would be of any interest or use to you. If you would like or need them, I'll be glad to share them with you, as well. I Wish To Be Contacted Regarding: Since the boundaries of these two areas of Europe/Poland changed so much over the years and my great-great and great grandfathers were Rabbis with the last name of Landau, I am very hopeful that there is some sort of a link between your ancestors and mine and I would dearly love to know what it is. My wife's ancestors on fathers side: Genealogy of the Pappenheim Family of Pressburg and Vienna ( back to ca. 1600) On mothers side: Genalogy and Family History - Maurice Pappenheim and Margit Ernst: including Ernst Family of Budapest (to late 1700s); Schlesinger Family of Vienna and Eisenstadt (to early 1500s - including R. Mordechai Jafe - Levush) and a detailed Table on R. Akiva Eger to R. Meir Kaztenellenbogen of Padua. I am working now to stablish the ancestry back to Raschi or as close as possiblt to him. What may not be so well known is that he also was involved in a controversy with the Rabbinat of Frankfurt am Main.
