What is Reiki? Reiki is a Japanese word which stands for "Universal Life Force Energy", something we all need to maintain a balance between our spirit and physical bodies.The practice of Reiki has been around for thousands of years in the eastern world and only became popular in the 1900's in the western world. Prior to that it had been in use in Japan due to the rediscovery in the mid to late 1800's of this healing art form by a spiritual teacher named Mikao Usui. Many people are grateful for Mikao Usui's exceptional effort to rediscover how to heal with the hands by using Universal Life Force Energy. Why? Because it works plain and simple. Everyday all over the world people are healing physically, spiritually and emotionally from the practice of Reiki.
A safe yet powerful energy, Reiki is channeled into the body by a Certified Reiki practitioner. The practitioner does not use their own energy ,but, is a channel for the Reiki energy.The person receiving Reiki is in charge of how much energy healing they want to receive. The client lies fully clothed on a Reiki table and the Reiki practitioner will place their hands on specific as well as intuitive areas of the body and a wonderful feeling of well-being follows. Reiki can be applied above the body also for those who prefer this way. Direct transference of energy over specific areas of pain works to decrease pain in an amazing way. The relief of physical and emotional pain is not uncommon when receiving Reiki treatments. The relief of backpain, neckpain, headaches, arthritic pain and pain associated with injuries are just some of the ailments that have been alleviated by receiving Reiki. The sooner you receive Reiki after an injury the better your chances are to recover faster and more completely. This goes for illnesses also. I have clients who have been diagnosed with cancer and the relief they receive from Reiki sessions range from a decrease in pain and depression to a decrease in cancer sites. All report an increase in energy levels. Reiki supports the immune system and enhances the bodies innate ability to heal itself.
Since Reiki is not massage, and massage may be contraindicated in pregnancy,women
who are pregnant find Reiki to be a safe and wonderful way to reduce the stress and backpain associated with pregnancy. Many women have received Reiki during childbirth and find Reiki to be a wonderful way to ease the birthing process. Those who receive Reiki pre-operativly find that they are calmer going into surgery and heal faster from their procedures. Hospitol Reiki is a specialty of mine and I have had the pleasure of helping to get Reiki noticed and started in hospitols. Reiki is now an accepted part of nursing practice by the Massachusetts Nurses Association.

My name is Marybeth McKinnon Lang, I am a Registered Nurse and Traditional Usui Reiki Master. I was trained by Traditional Usui Reiki Master John Harvey Gray. John is the 3rd Reiki Master that Hawayo Takata trained, one of only 22 Reiki Masters she initiated before her passing in 1980. Hawayo Takata was initiated by Dr.Chujiro Hayashi who was initiated by Mikao Usui himself. I am very grateful for Hawayo Takata's pioneering efforts to be the first person to introduce Usui Reiki to America.
